Retailers have turned Donald Trump’s “nasty woman” comment into tangible pieces of merchandise that hold a surprisingly empowering place in presidential debate history.

Donald Trump once again proved that making it through a 90-minute debate without looking like a complete douchebag is akin to spitting into the wind, where the stupid rhetoric he spews is only going to come back and smack him. Right.In.The.Face.

During the third and final presidential debate, Trump initially proclaimed that no one respected women more than him, only to go on to call opponent Hillary Clinton, “such a nasty woman.” (Queue the horrified gasps and looks of utter disbelief.)

As soon as Americans collected their jaws off the floor, and regained their composure, they did what this country does best. This condescending and defamatory vitriol was turned from the most tart, lip-pursing lemon you’ve ever tasted, into the sweetest, go-f*ck-yourself glass of lemonade.

Aaaah, so refreshing.

“Nasty woman,” a blow that Trump spouted out in his signature careless manner, has now become fodder for the masses, and pure motivational gold for female voters. As if you needed any before this happened.

Capitalizing on his cantankerous remarks, retailers have made it possible for you to wear this message like a badge of honor — because, let’s be real, that’s exactly what it is. Whether you choose to wear a t-shirt to the polls for early voting, or decide to incorporate the decor at home for the celebratory party you throw after Clinton smokes his ass, this is merchandise worth springing for. Girl, it’s time to treat yo self!

ColumnIf you’ve met more than a handful of American women in your life, then you know all women are unique. So, why haven’t fashion designers and politicians read that memo?

Society seems to have a strange desire to make all women the same. We’ve noticed quite a few instances of this societal behavior over the past week, but the following two stories caught our eye. Why were they interesting? Well, because the people at the heart of these stories are demanding we change this all-too-common dialogue.

Yeah, It’s Hillary

While Hillary Clinton was recently accused of being unfit for the presidency because she’s had to take some time off due to phenomena–a serious illness–she’s also had to deal with other negative press.

Recently, a prominent Republican tried to accuse Clinton of looking too angry… Yes, we’re serious.

The New York Times recently reported that “Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, wrote on Twitter that Mrs. Clinton had appeared ‘angry + defensive’” during last week’s national security forum on NBC.

Here’s all of Priebus’ tweet so you can see what he wrote:

“@HillaryClinton was angry + defensive the entire time – no smile and uncomfortable – upset that she was caught wrongly sending our secrets.”

Nah, Reince. She was just too consumed with answering questions. Maybe she, like many women, just has what you men can’t seem to stand: a bitchy resting face.

But the real question is why do people want Clinton to “smile more” yet they don’t care about Trump’s face? Is it because she’s a woman and everyone expects women to be “nice” and “accommodating” all the time, no matter what? Of course it is. So, you know, even when she’s talking about national security she should be always thinking about her appearance.

Fashion Designers

The other story that caught our eye this week concerns Tim Gunn and his official “boy, bye” to the boring, out of touch fashion world.

Gunn recently penned an editorial in The Washington Post about how absurd sizing in the fashion world is.

Titled “Designers Refuse to Make Clothes to Fit American Women; It’s a Disgrace,” his article is full of great observations about how stupid designers can be about everyday women’s sizes. Gunn is, thankfully, over that:

“This [designers’ overwhelming desire to only cloth thin women] is a design failure and not a customer issue,” Gunn writes.

“There is no reason larger women can’t look just as fabulous as all other women. The key is the harmonious balance of silhouette, proportion and fit, regardless of size or shape. Designs need to be reconceived, not just sized up; it’s a matter of adjusting proportions. The textile changes, every seam changes. Done right, our clothing can create an optical illusion that helps us look taller and slimmer. Done wrong, and we look worse than if we were naked.”

Damn straight. It’s insane for designers to think that women have to change in order to fit their beauty standards—it needs to be the other way around, bozos.

So, everyone, take note. American women and women everywhere owe you nothing. Just leave us alone and maybe you’ll get our business… and our vote.

ColumnIf you want to piss off a bunch of white people—especially white dudes—have a woman on the ticket after a black man served as president for eight successful years.

Yes, Hillary Clinton is not a perfect candidate. You may even be disappointed that Clinton won the democratic party’s nomination for president of the United States. But Clinton is also quite a few other things than an imperfect white woman — all of them positive — that most of her haters seem to have conveniently forgotten since she declared she was running for president.

Before you ask: no. We aren’t trying to persuade you to vote for Clinton. But please take a moment to examine the differences between the major party candidates—because let’s be real; we’re either going to live in a Clinton or Trump America come 2017.

Clinton is a “mom” first

We love that Clinton is a mom. We’ve all got one, and good ones can be hard to find. If Chelsea’s words at the DNC were an indication of her mom’s awesomeness, well that’s nothing to avoid touting. But we also find it a little strange that Clinton is quickly becoming “candidate mom” rather than a “candidate who also is a mom.”

In past elections, plenty of men have talked at length about how they love their sons and/or daughters. But none of their campaigns have so blatantly pointed out these candidates’ fatherly tendencies.

I suspect that Clinton’s campaign team is marketing her as a mom because they fear that voters—specifically voters who have problems with women in authority positions—will have to view her as a kind, loving woman before they trust her; and we all know Clinton has some major trust issues.

But still.

Clinton is running against Trump, a candidate who hasn’t made his tax returns public, and has no problem publically disparaging the parents of an army captain who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country. We could all stand to see a more hardcore criticism of Trump from Clinton in the coming months—even if it makes some people uncomfortable. John Oliver can give her some cues.

Clinton can’t make a speech, has a public likeability problem

Hillary Clinton gave a fine speech at the DNC last week. But even Clinton has recognized in the past—and in her DNC acceptance speech—that her public persona isn’t rousing. Well, although Clinton’s speech may not have been comparable to Joe Biden, or either Obamas’ speeches, it was still moving. We’ve pulled a few concepts from Clinton’s speech to show that, yes, this candidate is totally capable of delivering an important message, and connecting with the American public.

If that’s playing the woman card, then deal me in.

Anyone who has an issue with Clinton bringing her gender into the race should reconsider their stance. No, women shouldn’t vote for Clinton just because she’s female, but everyone—men and women—should take a step back and think about how this particular fact about Clinton could help her presidency.

When any barrier is broken it makes room for all of us.

Clinton knows a lot about barriers. No matter how you slice it, women do have it more difficult than men. Clinton has most likely been paid less and has had to work harder to be taken seriously—if you don’t believe that, just watch an hour of election news coverage.

More than a few times I’ve had to pick myself up and get back in the game.

Clinton knows what it’s like to be trash-talked. Sure, every political candidate gets an ear full of negative feedback on the regular, but Clinton also has to contend with people’s thoughts on her marriage and dedication to her child, all while trying to prove she’s qualified for the job.

Clinton looks too angry, dresses weird, sounds shrill

Sure, men get criticized for this stuff, too, but damn. Clinton just can’t escape these pointless critiques.

Just this past week, TBS, the network that Samantha Bee’s show, “Full Frontal,” is on, tweeted an incredibly dumb tweet that compared Clinton’s laugh to a donkey’s bray. Well, Bee went after that tweet immediately, telling her own network to “delete your account.” Luckily, the network realized its error, but still. This type of stuff needs to stop.

Who cares if Clinton’s wardrobe isn’t to your liking? Heck, it’s hard for me to put together a unique outfit every day and I’m not on television. Give her a break.

Don’t like Clinton’s anger? Please stop. I don’t know about you, but over the past year, I’ve become increasingly angry about everything going on in the world. The world is scary, politics are scary, and this presidential election is really scary. If Clinton wasn’t angry or upset by the state of the world, I’d wonder about her.

And she’s not shrill, people. It’s hard for a woman to project her voice and be heard. And yeah, she may not be the best public speaker, but at least she can articulate her political stance to a national audience without saying anything about a stupid wall.

So, people, please. Give Clinton a break and criticize her for things that actually matter.

ColumnThe American political climate has been at its craziest over the past few months. And while a lot of the political news is quite concerning, we’ll touch on one of those major concerns, which happens to rhyme with “Rump”.

One story that restored our faith in American politics this past week was the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to block a Louisiana law that would have restricted the state’s abortion providers. The law would have left the southern state with one doctor who was “licensed to perform the procedure [an abortion],” reports the LA Times. The decision was made last Friday. Justice Clarence Thomas entered the single no vote.

While this is positive news for women seeking abortions in Louisiana, the decision is also a sign of hope for abortion access supporters throughout the country.

“For the third time in a little over a year, the Supreme Court has stepped in to preserve women’s ability to get the constitutionally protected healthcare they need,” Nancy Northup, president of the Center for Reproductive Rights, says. “We look to the justices to put an end to these sham measures threatening women’s rights, health and lives across the U.S.”

But just because SCOTUS votes one way on a certain case doesn’t meant that the Court will continue to vote in a similar fashion on future cases. And since a seat on the Supreme Court recently opened after Judge Scalia’s sudden passing, the Court’s future is even more uncertain. Thus far, it’s unknown if President Obama will be able to place a justice on the Court during his last year in office.

And that leads us to a quick discussion about America’s 2016 presidential nominees. While nothing is set in stone, it appears that Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic Party’s candidate and that Donald Trump will be the Republican Party’s candidate.

Now, if Clinton becomes president, she will most likely continue to make moderate or left-leaning decisions, which probably means U.S. abortion rights will remain, at the very least, relatively safe. But if Trump becomes president? All bets are off.

Over the past few weeks, Trump has catered to white supremacists, made various references concerning the size of his penis during a debate, and has hocked his various Trump products during a post-primary speech.

While Trump has said many things that seem to indicate he doesn’t respect women, he also has made some incredulous declarations about abortion. Just recently, Trump said the following during a press conference: “Look, Planned Parenthood has done very good work for many, many—for millions of women. And I’ll say it, and I know a lot of the so-called conservatives, they say that’s really—’cause I’m a conservative, but I’m a common-sense conservative.”

The sentiment seems to indicate that Trump is beginning to realize the he’s going to have to start “moving toward the middle” if he wants to win the general election. However, as we all know, everything that comes out of politicians mouths–especially Trump’s mouth–can’t be taken seriously. After all, it’s hard to believe that a man who has made fun of women’s periods could ever be an advocate for women’s health.

We’re certain this isn’t the last time Trump will be in the news-we’ll keep you up to date on all his antics in the coming months.

It’s going to be a long summer.

Man, the presidential race is getting ugly. And no, we’re not just talking about the republican presidential candidates’ propensity to go after each other. We’re talking about popular, liberal feminists.

The basic gist is that some people (Gloria Steinem, sadly, is one) think that girls are enamored with Sanders because of his pull with dudes. Not cool.
