This recipe for a homemade mouthwash is as health-promoting as it is effective and easy to put together.

In one study, researchers discovered that the blood pressure among 19 healthy people after having rinsed with an antiseptic mouthwash increased from 2 to 3.5 mm Hg – the kind of jump, if left alone, could increase the risk of cardiovascular disease by 7 percent!

Instead of the regular types, try out a homemade mouthwash that gets the job done. This homemade mouthwash recipe includes the following:

1. Baking soda – a mild abrasive to remove stains as well as whitens teeth
2. Tea tree oil – proven to fight gum disease
3. Peppermint oil – prevents bad breath

Homemade Mouthwash

Good for about 6 uses

Ingredients

• 1 cup water
• 1/4 cup baking soda
• 4 drops tea tree essential oil
• 4 drops peppermint essential oil

Directions: Place all into a small class container with a lid and shake until evenly combined. Swish a few teaspoons in the mouth before spitting and rinsing.
