<p><strong>1. For the feisty feminist:</strong></p><div id="inContentContiner"><!-- /4450967/ES-In-Content -->

<p>society6 has a series of <a title="Feminist as Fuck" href="http://society6.com/srahhh/FEMINIST-wJD_T-shirt#11=50&amp;4=76" target="_blank">Feminist As Fuck</a> items, including this red t-shirt. With tops for kids and men, and onesies for babies, the whole family can say, &#8220;Hey, I&#8217;m feminist as fuck!&#8221; loud and proud.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Beyonce.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-142534" alt="Beyonce" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Beyonce.jpg" width="455" height="455" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2013/12/Beyonce.jpg 455w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2013/12/Beyonce-350x350.jpg 350w" sizes="(max-width: 455px) 100vw, 455px" /></a></strong></p>
<p><strong>2. For the music loving feminist: </strong></p>
<p>Beyonce&#8217;s new album. Unless you spent the week under a rock, you know that <a title="Beyonce Visual Album" href="http://www.beyonce.com/" target="_blank">Beyonce</a> stealthy released a &#8220;visual album&#8221; with 14 songs and 17 videos? WHAT? No matter how you feel about her earlier advice to &#8220;put a ring on it,&#8221; I&#8217;m glad to see that Beyonce sampled <a title="Feminist Beyonce Samples" href="http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2013/12/16/meet-the-feminist-writer-beyonc-samples-on-her-new-album" target="_blank">Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie</a>, an award-winning Nigerian author, and included lots of her own views about feminism.</p>
<p><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/4987642375_96a18a6d6f.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-142537" alt="4987642375_96a18a6d6f" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/4987642375_96a18a6d6f.jpg" width="455" height="152" /></a></p>
<p><strong>3. For the feminist activist:</strong></p>
<p>The pen is still mightier than the sword. <a title="Mother Jones" href="https://secure.motherjones.com/fnp/?action=SUBSCRIPTION&amp;list_source=7G3CL2B&amp;extra_don=1&amp;a_first_name=Elisabeth&amp;a_last_name=&amp;a_address_1=&amp;a_city=&amp;a_state=&amp;a_zip=60622&amp;a_email=libby.e.lowe@gmail.com" target="_blank">Mother Jones magazine</a> is an independent, nonprofit publication with the ability—with its solid reporting on politics, the environment, women&#8217;s issues and more—to influence everything from the gun-control debate to presidential campaigns. Support the magazine as it makes year-end push to raise the funds to continue bringing real, game-changing journalism into the world.</p>
<p><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/411vgatu0il_1_.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-142538" alt="411vgatu0il_1_" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/411vgatu0il_1_.jpg" width="455" height="529" /></a></p>
<p><strong>4. For the little feminist:</strong></p>
<p>If you&#8217;re not down with your kid sporting a t-shirt with the F-word on it, there are other options, like this <a title="Katniss Lego" href="http://www.amightygirl.com/lego-katniss-everdeen-figure" target="_blank">Katniss Everdeen</a> Lego figure. Check out MightyGirl for lots of girl-empowered gifts. I kind of love the Marie Curie finger puppet.</p>
<p><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/LBF.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-142539" alt="LBF" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/LBF.jpg" width="455" height="364" /></a></p>
<p><strong>5. For the feminist on the go:</strong></p>
<p>La Bella Figura&#8217;s seed-to-skin products are perfect for cold-weather dwelling feminists and for winter travel. The Holiday Essential Mini Set Includes: Daily Elements Defense, Barbary Fig Renewal Serum and Travel Therapy.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/cloudsyoga.png"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-142540" alt="cloudsyoga" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/cloudsyoga.png" width="455" height="486" /></a></strong></p>
<p><strong>6. For the feminist yoga fiend:</strong></p>
<p>These yoga pants by Teeki are eco- and lady-friendly —and a welcome departure from the every popular (and to be avoided at all costs) <a title="Gratitude and Feminism: That Happened" href="http://ecosalon.com/gratitude-feminism-happened/" target="_blank">Lululemon</a> basics. Teeki pants are made from recycled water bottles and produced in U.S. using solar power. Shine on.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/SO22U_georgia_cookiejar2.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-142541" alt="SO22U_georgia_cookiejar2" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/SO22U_georgia_cookiejar2.jpg" width="455" height="455" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2013/12/SO22U_georgia_cookiejar2.jpg 455w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2013/12/SO22U_georgia_cookiejar2-350x350.jpg 350w" sizes="(max-width: 455px) 100vw, 455px" /></a></strong></p>
<p><strong>7. For the feminist foodie:</strong></p>
<p>Be prepared for lots of &#8220;hand in the cookie jar&#8221; jokes when you present the <a title="Jonathan Adler Georgia" href="http://www.jonathanadler.com/Georgia-Cookie-Jar/?cat=" target="_blank">Jonathan Adler Georgia</a> cooke jar to the giftee.</p>
<p><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/p6086_column_grid_12.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-142546" alt="p6086_column_grid_12" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/p6086_column_grid_12.jpg" width="455" height="455" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2013/12/p6086_column_grid_12.jpg 455w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2013/12/p6086_column_grid_12-150x150.jpg 150w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2013/12/p6086_column_grid_12-300x300.jpg 300w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2013/12/p6086_column_grid_12-415x415.jpg 415w" sizes="(max-width: 455px) 100vw, 455px" /></a></p>
<p><strong>8. For the feminist desk-dweller and coffee-drinker:</strong></p>
<p>The <a title="‘Selfie’ Is Our Word of the Year: That Happened" href="http://ecosalon.com/selfie-word-year-happened/" target="_blank">cunt</a> mug  says it all. It can serve as a warning to, or a commentary on, co-workers. How handy!</p>

<p>What happens when one style meets another? Is it catastrophe waiting to happen or is there hope for harmony?</p>
<p>That&#8217;s why we created Style Clash. Some design styles are more flexible; others force us to stretch outside our comfort zone. Each week we will offer tips for mixing competing styles successfully.</p>
<p>What do we mean by &#8220;successful&#8221;, you ask? If nothing seems strange, jarring or just plain ugly, then I&#8217;m all for it regardless of time period, colorway or material. I call it a successful Style Clash.</p><div id="inContentContiner"><!-- /4450967/ES-In-Content -->
    <div id="div-gpt-ad-1430927735854-0">
    <script type="text/javascript">
    googletag.cmd.push(function() {
      googletag.display("div-gpt-ad-1430927735854-0");
      googletag.pubads().refresh([adslot4]);
    });
    </script>
    </div>

    <!-- ES-In-Content
		<script type="text/javascript">
		GA_googleFillSlot("ES-In-Content");
		</script>--></div>
<p>For our <a href="http://ecosalon.com/tag/style-clash/">fourth installment in the Series</a> we will mix <strong>Neoclassical</strong> with <strong>Hollywood Regency</strong> and see where we land.</p>
<p><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/neoclassical.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-62114" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/neoclassical.jpg" alt=- width="455" height="587" /></a></p>
<p>So far we&#8217;ve stayed fairly current in our surveying of styles (although all design has historical references), but <strong>Neoclassical</strong> (image above and below) requires us to dust off our history books and rewind a few centuries. The second half of the 18th, to be exact.</p>
<p>At that time, a Greek and Roman style revival was born in France and England as a result of an awakened interest in and respect for the arts of the ancient past. The archaeological discoveries at <a href="http://www.romanhomes.com/your_roman_vacation/quarters/pompeii-herculaneum.htm" target="_blank">Herculaneum and Pompeii</a>, as well as an increase in travel expeditions to Athens and Rome were important factors in broadening the public&#8217;s knowledge.</p>
<p><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/rheinstein-05.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-62522" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/rheinstein-05.jpg" alt=- width="455" height="569" /></a></p>
<p>The <strong>Neoclassical</strong> style also originated as a direct reaction against the curvaceous and flowing nature of the early 18th century Rococo style. Furniture was bold with straight lines and linear geometric forms. Greco-Roman architectural elements such as columns, capitals, pilasters and friezes were common, as well as marble, stone and ironwork.</p>
<p><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/9-26-08hollywood1.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-62183" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/9-26-08hollywood1.jpg" alt=- width="455" height="336" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Hollywood Regency</strong> style (image above and below) was born more recently, in the glamorous and sexy golden age of LA-LA land, the 1930s. The mood was upbeat and revolved around entertaining, lavish parties and showing off.</p>
<p>The originators of this interior design style were <a href="http://www.dorothydraper.com/History.html" target="_blank">Dorothy Draper</a> and Billy Haines who decorated homes of the rich and famous with all the glitz, opulence and risqué rebellion they could muster. Nothing was too over-the-top for Draper and Haines.</p>
<p><a href="/wp-content/uploads/home6.jpg"><img src="/wp-content/uploads/home6.jpg" alt=- width="455" height="249" /></a></p>
<p>Mix a few or all of the following elements and the <strong>Hollywood Regency</strong> style could be yours too: luxurious materials, over-sized furniture, sparkling chandeliers, bold graphics, Asian accessories, lots of mirrors and lacquered accents in bright colors.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.kellywearstler.com/" target="_blank">Kelly Wearstler</a> (image above) and <a href="http://jonathanadler.com/shop/interior_design.php" target="_blank">Jonathan Adler</a> (image below) are two contemporary designers known for their <strong>Hollywood Regency</strong> vibe. The style continues to evolve but nevertheless remains bold and full of vibrancy.</p>
<p><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/adler-2.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-62536" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/adler-2.jpg" alt=- width="455" height="433" /></a></p>
<p>Combining these styles may seem impossible to imagine, but that&#8217;s why we are here. Style Clash turns this unlikely duo into a design marriage made in heaven.</p>
<p><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/clash-pic.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-62590" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/clash-pic.jpg" alt=- width="455" height="398" /></a></p>
<p>The Greco-Roman elements in the &#8216;clash&#8217; interiors (image at top, image above and below) stand proud but leave plenty of space for a twist or two of glamour and grandiosity. Notice the pops of color, the opulent fabrics and shiny, lacquered surfaces. It&#8217;s a party waiting to happen, but with a sophisticated and subtle crowd more attune to showing up than showing off.</p>
<p><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/clash-pic-6.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-62595" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/clash-pic-6.jpg" alt=- width="455" height="395" /></a></p>
<p>If I had to define this &#8216;clash&#8217;, I&#8217;d call it something like classical with a subdued and thoughtful twist of glitz.</p>
<p><a href="/wp-content/uploads/clash-pic-4.jpg"><img src="/wp-content/uploads/clash-pic-4.jpg" alt=- width="455" height="397" /></a></p>
<p>Meet me here next week as we continue to cruise the spectrum of interior design styles, two at a time. Ciao for now!</p>
