Let’s all give a nod to Marc Jacobs for fostering one of the least impressive trends to see this spring – shoulder pads.

Thanks to Jacobs, who easily impresses the fashion world with his seasonal lines and willingness to step two sides to the right, left, then do-si-do outside of the box, we are forced to consider two stern sidekicks on either side of our heads.

One might muse that this geometrical trend is a reaction to all the bare shoulders we’ve been seeing courtesy of Hollywood starlets gracing red carpets; an immediate reaction to pad up and channel a tougher image to the world outside.

Worn with harem pants or a pencil skirt you too can be the new symbol of everything 80s (see Princess Diana, Molly Ringwald or Madonna for reference).

Implemented gently, you might be able to pull it off but beware of the voices resting on either shoulder telling you to add more or less.
