Finally, a lamp for obsessive bottle cap collectors.

I’ve lusted after Lula Dot’s creations before, so it should come as no surprise that I’m crushing so majorly on the CAPtivate. Designer Lucy Norman took into consideration that only 5.5% of plastic bottles sold in the UK are recycled. Bottle caps, meanwhile, are generally not recycled at all because they are made from an altogether different plastic from the bottles themselves.

Lucy designed the CAPtivate to illuminate this waste, both figuratively and literally, by turning tossed out bottle caps into something a bit more ambient. Each light comes with 50 caps; to cover the light completely, however, it requires some reuse by you. Consider it an opportunity to channel your inner Edison – or your essential Tesla – while greening up a patch of landfill.

The CAPtivate retails internationally for £128.00, approximately $206 in the United States.

I think I’m going to move to Norway.

Not since I backpacked Europe alone and met lots of handsome towheaded Norwegians who insisted on braiding my hair have I felt this desire.

I blame all this on Blondes Make Better T-Shirts, to their easy going sense of humor in the face of some pretty terrible global issues like clean water and global warming and making light of it on a simple t-shirt (not to mention I’d just love a trip to Norway).

    });

The line is actually co-designed by two women, one based in Norway, the other in New York (both blondes of course) who cut their t-shirts from a fabric made of 50 percent recycled bottles mixed with organic cotton and a Promodal made from 40 percent Beech Tree, 60 percent Eucalyptus.

To add to their sustainable messages and fabric, the gals are proud to use water based inks on their t-shirts, which are silk screened in L.A. and 100 percent sweat-shop free.

You might be asking yourself at this point, “Um Amy, where are all these environmentally friendly and funny t-shirts you write of? The one you’re showing is cute but has lipstick on the collar?”

Well, dear readers who love these giveaways, if you go over to Olivine, one of the cutest boutiques you’ll find online, you’ll see a whole array of t-shirts from the blondes with messages that include “Help Global Warming. Donate a Swimming Noodle to a Polar Bear,” “Save the Blondes. Too Many Animals Are Dying Out,” and “Save the fjords, give the blondes a place to hang out.”

The above tee is from their “Oops” Collection and features a pair of non-toxic red-lipsticked kissers that by mistake went unnoticed as the wearer pulled on her tee.

Interested in trying to win it? Then leave a creative comment below with a slogan you would put on one of their t-shirts. Here’s mine: “Two blondes walk into a bar. Save the blondes.”

When I look at this umbrella from A Lot To Say, I have high hopes that its cool factor will encourage me to remember to take it with me on overcast days.

Made entirely of recycled bottles, the line consists of not just umbrellas but t-shirts, pillowcases, undies and scarves (for people and pets) clad in hip messaging about conserving water, loving the earth and being aware of flushing and nuking things. Nothing like a wearable fact to keep the awareness.

Here’s one fact for you: The United States sends over two million tons of plastic drink bottles to landfills yearly. The bottles, identified by the number “1” in the recycle symbol we all know, are made of the plastic called PET, which A Lot to Say recycles into their products: “The materials saved from not having to grow, harvest and process the raw materials not only helped conserve our planet’s limited resources, at the same time, it also played a huge part in removing non-biodegradable materials from our landfills.”

Reuse alone is great, but the company also addresses a more sustainable approach to printing and dyeing that was lower in toxins and that consumed less water usage. Their solution is to use AirDye® technology from Colorep®, a forward-thinking company that pioneered waterless technology in the application of color to fabric.

“If everyone employed AirDye® technology, it could save trillions of gallons of water a year around the globe that are currently used to apply color textiles. This preserved water could then be used to feed the world and provide a cleaner, safer environment,” says the A Lot To Say site.

Do you feel strong enough to shoulder this information and spread the word? If yes, then leave a comment below. Good luck!
