When I think stainless steel, I think…cutlery. Sturdy, dishwasher-safe knives, forks and spoons. Stainless steel does not usually bring pictures of blooming flowers and jewelry into mind”¦until now.

Meet designer Laura Su, who works with stainless steel (an eco-friendly, sustainable material) to create simple and modern earrings and necklaces inspired by nature. Her company is Prismera and her eco-friendly collections are Flora & Folium and Noctiflora.

I’m intrigued by the “botanical silhouettes” of the Flora & Folium series – it’s hard to imagine these delicate pieces were cut from stainless steel. See for yourself and choose from “traditional floral motifs” such as Dogwood, Geranium, Mimosa, Orchid and Rosemary. My current favorite is the Woodruff necklace ($110) and earrings ($44).

The “ethereal and mysterious quality” of the Noctiflora Collection is captivating. I knew nothing of night-blooming flowers before Prismera and now I’m hopelessly hooked. The series includes earrings and necklaces, with prices ranging from $40 to $120.

Prismera is absolutely about the power of the flower. I know I’ve found such a power when my biggest challenge is choosing which piece to purchase.
