Autumn music is different than summer music, and for that, I’m grateful. Don’t get me wrong – I like catchy pop as much as the next person, but there’s just something about the broody vibes certain albums have that make them perfect for a chilly fall day.

To help you start your autumn music collection, we’ve listed some new albums you should add to your collection.

Chelsea Wolfe, “Abyss”

Wolfe is an expert songstress who knows how to write moody music that sounds like black velvet. This is Wolfe’s fifth album and it has a deep dreamy quality that’s meant to mimic the feeling a person gets when they briefly awake from a dream and quickly fall back asleep. Wolfe’s relationship with sleep is a fraught one – she suffers from sleep paralysis. And, according to her bio, it’s that experience that gives her work its texture.

Weyes Blood, “Cardamom Times”

While the band’s latest EP won’t come out until October 9, you can listen to one of the EP’s songs, “Cardamom,” now. It’s an ethereal track filled with delicate picking and moody lyrics. The band’s frontwoman, Natalie Mering, has a strange and storied background. (According to Pitchfork, she’s done everything from tapping maple trees in Kentucky to studying herbs in the New Mexico desert). Her history has helped shape the band’s folk-y, psychedelic sound. If you want to hear some of the band’s previous music, purchase its 2014 release, “The Innocents.”

Widowspeak, “All Yours”

This album is about to be released (you can get it on September 4). And according to Stereogum, it’s filled with dreamy, country-pop gems. The duo, which consists of Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas, spend this feature album musing on aging, love, and sadness.
