I like Michael Pollan's summary of healthy eating: shop the store perimeter, avoid foods your great grandmother wouldn't recognize, and avoid foods with complicated ingredient lists and crazy health claims. (I grant that eggs and almonds qualify on points 1 and 2, but even those companies recognize that it's a jungle out there, what with all the Krunchy VitaminOmegaTransGoodness Lo-Salt SnakPaks In Vibrant Colors jostling for space in your shopping cart.)

Nutraceutically labeled foods are designed and optimized for one thing, and that's to part consumers from their dollars. I doubt that ConAgra's shareholders are really interested in whether we live longer, sleep better, lose weight, have energy and avoid cancer.
