As far as I know, while the taste is similar Mounds are crafted from coconut while Needhams are made of potato–much easier to come by in Maine! They are also usually flatter and square-shaped.

Would this be similar to the mass-market brand Mounds? I loved those as a kid.

Another great item from Maine: Needhams! Basically, they are a potato-based candy dipped in dark chocolate. I’m not sure if this is still true, but they used to be sold in orange wax paper that was sorta folded over and not really sealed. No one was worried.
