Somehow that didn’t happen, and in fact, the amount of paper that most offices use has increased in the past decade.

Anything you have is better than an extra, unneeded item. So even if there is a “greener” product, don’t buy it in addition to something you already have!
Got a smelly old car that burns too much gas? Keep it!
Buying a new one uses up MORE resources (and the old smelly one will probably still be kept going after you’ve sold it!).
Unfortunately for your advertisers DON’T BUY is the eco-friendly way.
