As for the Burqa thing, yes, it’s super-controversial…after all, how can anyone DENY someone else the right to dress as they choose? The big problem is, however, that many women must wear the Burqa by force. They are literally bullied and coerced into it by male family members, who threaten the women with beatings, hellfire, or seclusion in the house.

There are many women who would probably not choose the Burqa for themselves if they weren’t so frightened into wearing it. Modest dress, sure. A veil, great. But the burqa basically tells the world that women must remain invisible…psychologically it’s got to be disastrous…especially if the men around you are pretty much forcing you to wear it, well…what else are they telling you? Can’t be very empowering.
