Great post. I wear the same fleece tops every night to stay warm. Does that count? Unlike Kim, my kids don't get to wear uniforms to school but it would make life SO MUCH EASIER. I have an upcoming post on the subject. I love the design take on it.

As an eco-fashion designer, I was absolutely thrilled to hear about this project, as it is the ultimate in true sustainability. A huge part of my design process is challenging myself to create something that is stylish, but timeless. If a piece of clothing is made from eco-conscious materials but so trendy that it's going to be discarded, what is the point? A truly sustainable piece of clothing should be well made and classic enough that it can be worn again and again, for years. This is also the reason that we carry many of our pieces over from season to season. If a piece of clothing can be worn year-round, it is contributing to the effort we all need to be making to avoiding the insta-disposal trap. And really, for those of use who love fashion, what's more fun than finding new ways to wear the same piece? Kudos to you Sheena!

I love this idea -- I think there's a lot of room for us to pare down what we have and reinvent what we've got. And lots of folks would be eager for designers to create multipurpose or convertible pieces that lend themselves to this approach. But I'm struggling with the notion that if lots of people wore basics like in the Uniform Project, reinvented daily, offices might soon resemble a Brave New World....

Great post Amy.

I'm impressed with the intention of one outfit for one year, and I'm a big supporter of "uniforms" having worn one in school from 5th through the 12th grade. It's awesome that there are designers willing to explore the idea!

I must admit that what I wear each day is a form of self-expression - and that wearing the same dress/onesie/outfit, even with the freedom to accessorize, might leave me listless...after a few weeks?...or months? But I've done crazier things, so who knows?

I'm a big fan of uniform dressing (in my case, jeans + belt + tee + accessories) because it creates a strong style statement and also makes dressing in the morning easy. But a single outfit? That's brave - and efficient. I recall one of my uncles buying 7 identical shirts and wearing them over and over for decades (hey, he was an engineer).
