When society was such that we could retire to menstrual huts with other women for a few days, celebrating and knowing and attuning ourselves with our bodies was a possibility. In the age we live in, that is not only often impossible but sometimes undesirable.

One of my daughters has had to deal with very painful menstruation for over 20 years. She has been checked out 6 ways to Sunday by allopathic, naturopathic, holistic doctors, Reiki practitioners and more. She has journaled, kept dream diaries, and taken every other road to understanding what her body is saying, trying to give it what it needs. Two things are clear: she will take a sick day at least once a month, and she will not take medications other than herbal treatments which have not helped her.
I did not have these problems. I was able to use my moon time to know myself better, and for women who can do likewise - great! It is not for everyone, though.

Yes! What a great post!

As much as possible, I spend the first day or two of my moon in relaxation. Well, I have a young child, so total silence is impossible, but I try to journal, pay closer attention to my dreams, and go inward. I try to avoid errands and shopping and working for at least the heaviest day.

We've got everything we need inside of us, every bit of wisdom and information, but we need to s-l-o-w down and tap into it. Women's moontime is a gift...let's keep reminding each other, let's encourage at least one moon-day off every month...let's teach our daughters!
