I am a quilter. I find calmness in sewing. I get into a mental zone and tune out everything else but the task at hand. It's definitely my happy place; I am at once very very relaxed but very focused on the technical aspects of the task at hand. I do my best work in long, almost marathon sessions of piecing and pressing, and I have caught myself actually craving sewing time when I am especially stressed. I always thought it was more like hypnosis than anything else. I'd also like to mention that while in a rehab hospital, my great-aunt folded a lot of towels. She told me that if she was just going to sit around and do laundry, she might as well be at home where the food was better.

Great piece Amy. A massage therapist encouraged me to take up knitting aimlessly as a way to "find my joy". So I knit with no particular goal in mind. And it does help my mood. That will only last so long as I'll eventually want gloves. Or something, which will stress me out if I can't do it right...Still, I think this is so true.
