An article in Lucky Magazine this month discusses alternates to the spa, and mentions a getaway to a working farm with canvas tented cabins. There are 3: 2 in NY, and 1 in IL not that far from where I live outside Chicago. The collection is called featherdown farms and can be found at featherdown com. You stay in a wood floored tent with a wood burning stove, rustic dining table and multiple sleeping areas (can sleep 6) and you get back to nature. You can ride bikes, horseback ride, take walks, and fish, and participate in farm life by feeding animals, working the garden, etc. Your food for your stay comes from the honesty store where you pick what you want, record it, and pay when you leave. Sounds like such a wonderful place to be, especially to teach the grandkids about life without the IPad. I am actively planning a trip at some point over the next year.

I live in the city but hope to be able to pass on my love of nature to my children. I just hope it's still there for them when they're older. They are only tiny babies right now.
