It’s the greeting card that keeps on sprouting.

Last week we lusted after stationary. This week…well, we’re creatures of habit. That, or we’re feeling nostalgic for a some throwback glamour – snail mail style. Like postcards and greeting cards. Remember them? The British design outfit Another Studio has given the retro “wish you were here” salutation an eco-meets-Chia-Pet makeover.

These sprouting greeting cards are small, easily shippable packets that literally pop up into a working garden. In about two weeks (with proper watering, of course), the garden will envelop the barren urban landscape with a rich forest of foliage. Score one for Mother Nature. Score two for sending your mom a birthday card.

What began as an experiment with paint from her father’s garage blossomed into Rebecca Peragine’s greatest passion. But, it wasn’t until her son was scared to sleep alone in their new home that she was inspired to turn her artistry into a green business. After painting a dinosaur to protect him from monsters under the bed, she decided to take her talent to the next level with Print Pattern Paper.

In addition to beautifully illustrated prints made to brighten children’s rooms, the recent launch of Print Pattern Paper features eco-friendly totes and stationery as well. Plus, her creatively adorned reusable lunch sacs are the best way to wean old-fashioned mothers off of those wasteful brown paper bags.
