Check out these Thanksgiving crafts for tablescaping your harvest table.

With Halloween just around the corner, that means that there’s a little over four weeks to get ready for Thanksgiving. If your family is like most American families, then Thanksgiving is the most important food holiday of all time, and that is some serious business. There is so much to do to prepare. Not only do you have to plan the menu around everyone’s food allergies and sensitivities, come up with the seating arrangements (it is an election year after all), order the organic free-range turkey and figure out who is bringing dessert. But you can’t overlook those Thanksgiving crafts you want to make for the table. While you aren’t necessarily Martha Stewart that doesn’t mean you can’t have a stunning table that will wow your guests, and hopefully keep your politically conservative and liberal uncles distracted enough that they behave at the table.

Because you have enough to do without having to look up creative DIY Thanksgiving crafts for decorating the table, we’ve done that work for you. Here are some great Thanksgiving crafts you can make ahead of time to add some beauty to your harvest table. Mix and match whatever ideas strike your fancy.

Fall is just around the corner. And while everyone loves brightly colored flowers and summery home surroundings, come late September, those decorations will start to look a bit tired. Switch up your home’s surroundings and add a few warm-hued items (along with some cuddly throws), a handful of natural fall decorations, and set the mood to “cool,” and get yourself in an autumn state of mind.

1. Fall decorations

For me, fall décor means tons and tons of skulls, pumpkins, ghosts, and bats, because fall is all about Halloween. If you’re looking for little ghouls and goblins, Target has an awesome selection of equally creepy and cute creatures. If you’d rather not buy new, this is a great time to hit up thrift shops to find spooky gems of yesteryear.

If you’re not into Halloween, you can decorate with Mother Nature. For real. Take a walk to your local farmers market and pick up some seasonal gourds and pumpkins to set atop a mantel. Or make a door hanger out of freshly fallen autumn leaves.

2. Light seasonal candles

Nothing compliments a cool autumn evening more than a burning candle. If you’re into fun, seasonal candles (Halloween and autumn alike), Waxman Candles has a killer selection. This store sells candles that are handmade on the premises. The company also carries some soy and beeswax candles, too.

If you aren’t into candles, you can still make your home smell like fall. Just quickly whip up this batch of dried potpourri. It’s filled with amazing scents, such as clove, nutmeg, and allspice.

3. Throw on a blanket, or two

Adorn your couch with things you can snuggle. I often bury myself (and my dogs) under mountains of blankets and pillows while letting the cool night breeze float into my apartment. If you need to stock up on some blankets, pick items that are warm colored. Anything orange, red or deep purple works wonders with the autumn color scheme.

4. Get in the kitchen

I swear, that’s not a command. But often times, you can fill your home with the aroma of fall just by baking a batch of vegan sweet potato muffins, or making a loaf of banana bread. Also: Stock up on seasonal beer and red wine. Nothing makes my brain register “fall mode” better than pumpkin ale in the fridge, or syrah on the table.

5. Set the mood

There are oodles of fall movies you can watch, and a plethora of bands that really exude the season. My two favorites? Mirel Wagner and Dead Man’s Bones. Look ‘em up and tell me that these artists’ croons don’t put you in the mood for bonfires and pumpkin patch wandering.
