4. Tan Skin

Alima Pure Pressed Eyeshadow in Instinct

Bronzy golds and copper are perfect on tan skin, and work well with either warm or cool undertones. Try this bronze hue for creamy texture and depth.

5. Fair Skin with Warm Undertones

You exercise to relieve stress, stay fit, and maybe even because you like your workout. Did you know exercise can even help to improve skin tone? It’s true! What works and how to fake it ‘til you make it.

As we age, skin becomes thinner and loses elasticity, resulting in loose looking skin. Since we’d all like to avoid flabby calves and bat wings for as long as possible, let’s see what we can do to ward off the droop.

Research shows that regular exercise can not only keep you in rockin’ shape, but help to de-age skin too. The reason? When working out, our muscles release proteins. One protein in particular, called IL-15, is responsible for stimulating skin cells, boosting collagen production and cell turnover which makes the skin look and feel younger.

Yes, the only way to get these IL-15 proteins to help you out is through exercise. But there are certain ways to make your skin look more toned along with a good workout routine.

5 Tips on How to Tone Skin

1. Get your cardio on. Yep, exercise is the protein booster that makes skin look younger and research has found that it is cardio, not weight training, that gives the anti-aging effects. Jogging, running, swimming, and cycling are all obvious choices. Not feeling any of those? Try something new and different, like treading water or cardio Pilates.

2. Up the H2O. Dehydrated skin is saggy skin. Follow up your cardio with a big drink of water and aim for eight 8-ounce glasses per day.

3. Lube up. You know how your face seems to liven up after applying moisturizer? Well, the bod needs to stay hydrated too. Caffeine tightens skin and creates a toned effect. Try One Love Organics Gardenia + Tea Antioxidant Body Serum.

4. Protect yourself. This falls under the prevention category, but is so super important. Properly protecting skin from UV damage will help to ward off wrinkles, sagginess, and spots. Choose a healthy sunscreen that works for you.

5. Body contouring. So you don’t have a regular exercise regimen. Yet. Fake it ‘til you make it with body contouring. You don’t have to go crazy with Kardashian-worthy enhancement. A little nontoxic self tanner works wonders for covering flaws and making skin look firmer.

There you have it. Your plan to firmer, toned, more youthful looking skin. Bottom line? You’re going to need your runners.

In the current issue of Allure magazine, Julia Roberts displays a palette of pink makeup. I know what you’re thinking…But she’s Julia Roberts!

True that the pretty woman can pull off almost anything. But there is a pink out there that will play up your skin tone beautifully.

Pinks are in for the cooler weather season. They add a just-stepped-in-from-the-chill quality and almost give a translucent look to skin. If you feel more clown than cute in rosy hues, read on for tips, tricks, and product picks for to get every skin tone in the pink.

Perfect Pink Makeup Picks for Every Skin Tone

Fair Skin

Those with lighter skin tones have the toughest time pulling off pink. The wrong hue can take you straight to played-in-Mom’s-makeup territory. The problem? Certain pinks enhance natural pink undertones in skin. The key is to choose shades that lean to lilac or peach. Sheer pinks also work well on fair skin.

On Cheeks: Pat a cream blusher into cheeks for a natural looking flush. Try Tata Harper Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tint in Sweet, RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek in Demure, or Vapour Organic Beauty Aura Multi Use Blush – Classic in Crush. You want the bright pop of pink color but it looks all wrong on your skin? Try layering a wee bit of pink blush over a warmer apricot tone. Skin looks luminous and you get the color without the baby doll effect.

On Lips: Pretty petal pink is the way to go for fair skin. Ilia Beauty Lip Gloss in Love Buzz is just right and looks casual or dressed up. Ilia Beauty Tinted Lip Conditioner in Hold Me Now is more lipstick-y but sheer enough for delicate skin. Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques’ lip glosses will add a shimmer and shine to keep your lips hydrated and keep that gorgeous color in place.

On Eyes: Yes, pink also works on eyes. For lighter skin stick with light, sheer or shimmering pinks. Alima Pure Satin Matte Eyeshadow in Camelia adds just a touch of rosy glow without making eyes look red.

Medium Skin

Medium skin tones can work a wide array of pinks, from nude and brownish pinks to peony shades. Take liberties here, experiment and see what you like. Remember, if you are going with a bold shade, keep the rest of your makeup simple.

On Cheeks: A mauve tone will look more intense, an apricot will look more natural. Try Tata Harper Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tint in Vivacious, RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek in Smile, and Kjaer Weis Cream Blush Compact in Blossoming.

On Lips: A demure pink, Kjaer Weis Lip Tint Compact in Bliss Full, will lend an understated look. Go for a bold magenta for a power glam look with Ilia Beauty Lipstick in Neon Angel.

On Eyes: A swipe of rosiness on eyelids? Yes, please. Ilia Beauty Silken Shadow Stick in Next To You hits the spot.

Dark Skin

Dark skin tones can go with bold pinks. This means rich, rosy fuchsia, berry and rose gold.

On Cheeks: Don’t be afraid to go for drama on cheeks. A sweet hit of color on apples looks brilliant on darker skin tones. Some to try – Vapour Organic Beauty Aura Multi Use Blush – Classic in Torch, Kjaer Weis Cream Blush Compact in Happy, and La Bella Figura Radiant Crème Blush-Just Jenna.

On Lips: An intense lip color may be the easiest and most fun way to rock some pink. RMS Beauty Lip Shine in Sublime and Kjaer Weis Lip Tint Compact in Romance both fit the bill.

On Eyes: Sure, you could go with a shimmering frosty baby pink. But why not go for it with a bright shock of color? Haut Cosmetics Raw Pigments in Tourmaline says it all. Entire lid too much? Try using it as an accent smudged along upper and lower lash lines, paired with gold shadow and black eyeliner.

All Skin Tones

Another way to get a hint of pink into your look without going full throttle is with highlighter. Vapour Organic Beauty Stratus Instant Skin Perfector in 904 is an ultra sheer skin luminizer with a pink tone that reflects light and brightens skin. Apply to cheekbones, brow bones, bow of lips, and bridge of nose.

You’ve got this whole mineral sunscreen thing. How difficult can it be? Mineral is safer than chemical, use a facial sunscreen on face, body sunscreen on body, choose your appropriate SPF/Broad Spectrum/Water Resistant option as needed, and make sure you use safe sunscreen ingredients. Off you go into the UV bathed sunset.

Then you wake up and realize you have an issue or two with your bare bones sunscreen selecting method. Are non-whitening sunscreens invisible even on darker complexions? Will your facial sunscreen give you zits or dry your skin out? What if your sensitive skin doesn’t like your sunscreen? Do you put foundation over or under your sunscreen? Is it okay to wear foundation with sunscreen, is that even done?

Yikes! You’ve gotten yourself into quite the sunscreen conundrum. Not to worry, we are here to help. Yes, mineral is the safe sunscreen choice. Yep, it is best to use products designed for face on your face. Sure, SPF and Broad Spectrum protection are valid concerns. And of course, avoid toxic chemicals.

Why am I so big on toner? I spend most of my beauty regime on retaining and maintaining my skin tone. And I find a good organic toner to be the best way to do this. Maybe they work because they tighten pores and maintain pH levels, or maybe they work because fairies sprinkle eco-dust on your face after an application. I just find that, yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus, and ask him to bring you some toner.

The Eco-Toner to Buy: Thayer’s Rose Petal Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel

Now imagine me repeating this three times and clicking my red sequined heels together. This project seems almost magical. Thayer’s contains tannins extracted from the bark of witch hazel, or Hamamelis Virginiana. The tannins are made into big tea bags, soak in purified waters, and then placed into the toner. And just what do tannins do? In my case, I saw my skin tone return to something it resembled ten years ago. Containing some organic ingredients, it’s moisturizing, clean, and survives my sensitive skin. I cannot recommend this product more highly.

How to Make Your Own Eco-Toner:

Want to make your own? Check out this recipe for a hydrating, homemade skin toner containing calming chamomile.

1 organic chamomile tea bag

½ teaspoon organic vodka

In a small saucepan, brew tea bag in two cups of water for ten minutes. Remove the ea bag and cool. Add vodka when cooled and apply to skin using a clean cotton swap.
