It clocks in over two hours, but holds your attention for its entirety. The film follows Rosemary, a young married woman, who gets pregnant. 2. “Evil Dead 2”

If you’ve yet to give “Evil Dead” a watch, worry not! You can easily screen “Evil Dead 2” without getting confused (thanks to the first 10 minutes of the film). The film follows Ash — and a band of unlucky victims — as he fights the Deadites. Streaming for free with a subscription.

3. “Shivers”

Many laud this film as David Cronenberg’s first foray into “body horror.” It’s one of his best scary movies. It follows the unlucky residents of high-rise apartments. One by one, each person starts to become ill with a strange, sexually transmitted disease. Streaming for free with an Amazon Prime subscription.

4. “The Woman in Black”

This top-notch ghost story follows a sad widower as he visits an abandoned haunted estate. All he wants to do is get some papers in order, but the ghost that haunts the house (and the village’s children) has other plans. Streaming for free with an Amazon Prime subscription.

5. “American Psycho”

Patrick Bateman just wants to fit in. Thing is, he is having a heck of a time being just “one of the guys” because of his penchant for murder.

6. “Eraserhead”

This is David Lynch’s masterpiece, in my opinion. This black and white film follows a man as he tries to traverse the often weird, disgusting, and horrific aspects of fatherhood.

7. “Trick ‘r Treat”

This modern classic is a spin on the vignette movies of yesteryear (think “Creepshow”). It follows three main story lines that are equally gross, humorous, and disturbing. Rent for as low as $2.99.

8. “Friday the 13th”

This classic really doesn’t need an introduction. “Friday the 13th,” the first in the slasher series, follows the various demises of Camp Crystal Lake attendees. An awesome soundtrack and blood-soaked clothes await. Rent for as low as $2.99.

Sometimes all I want to do is chill and watch a killer chick stick it to some brute. Whenever a strong female character in a film uses her brain, strength or words to persevere, it makes me think, “heck, yeah. That’s a woman to admire.”

1. “Silence of the Lambs”: Clarice Starling may merely be an FBI trainee, but she is tough enough to work with Hannibal Lecter, a psychiatrist turned cannibal. This classic film will make for a creepy evening but will remind you that: Yes, women truly can handle everything that’s thrown at them.

2. “Charade”: Regina Lampert (Audrey Hepburn), a widower, finds out that her deceased husband was a spy. After she gets this dreadful news she soon finds out that the thing that got him killed is on her person. After discovering this intriguing news, she has to navigate amongst various men who are after what her husband left behind, but who can she trust? Her smarts and wily attitude help her navigate the dangerous landscape in this must-see classic.

3. and 4. “Kill Bill” volumes one and two: “Kill Bill” one and two are filled with amazing female characters who are smart and every bit as dangerous as the boys. Both films follow the Bride, played by Uma Thurman, as she avenges the death of her loved ones. In each film she takes down deadly assassins to get to get to her former boss, Bill.

5. “Guarding Tess“: Tess is a stringent and stubborn former first lady who gets along with no one. Well, almost no one. Tess has taken a strange shine to one of her reluctant bodyguards. Watch as the the duo’s strange friendship blossoms in some very unexpected, but sweet, ways.

6. “Harold and Maude“: Harold is a young man who is totally over the world and fantasizes about the sweet release of death. Good thing he meets Maude, a much older woman who shows him all the wonderful things that life has to offer. Truth be told, Maude is probably one of the best female characters ever written. Whether you relive the ’80s by wearing a hair band t-shirt you snagged from a garage sale, or by donning a scrunchie to the gym, it’s fun to turn back the clock every so often. This week, relive the neon-clad decade by watching some of the best ’80s movies now available online.

1. “Heathers”: This strange coming-of-age ‘80s flick was released in 1989. It follows Veronica, a high school popular girl, as she tries to break the hold the other popular girls have on her high school. After she meets J.D., a wacky new dude, trouble ensues, but Veronica ends up saving the day, and finding herself, too. Streaming for free with a subscription.

2. “Clue The Movie”: This slapstick film is a cult classic. It follows how six dinner guests react to discovering that their dinner host (who was blackmailing all of them) is dead. For an extra bit of fun, I’d break out the classic board game and play a few rounds with a buddy while watching the goofiness play out.

3. “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark”: This is my favorite installment in the Jones’ series. In the first film of the series, we meet Dr. Jones as he scrambles to save his lady, and the Lost Ark, from the hands of the Nazis. 4. “Labyrinth”: I’m a sucker for anything starring David Bowie, so this is one of my picks for best ’80s movies. This film follows a young girl who enters a strange, new world filled with crazy creatures and the menacing Goblin King. Her task: To save the baby the King is holding captive. While traversing the wild landscape, she learns important life lessons. Streaming for as low as $2.99.

5. “The Goonies”: If you grew up in the ’80s, you’ll surely remember how much you loved this film. It follows a group of totally normal kids as they try and find a secret treasure. Streaming for as low as $2.99.

This week, I’ve rounded up some saucy, silly and mindless-in-that-good-way streaming movies that are best when watched in the summertime. These streaming movies should keep you entertained this week and in the mood for the start of summer come this weekend.

Summer is here! OK, it’s not technically here, here, but it is less than a week away. To celebrate this bright-and-shiny season, I’m hosting a summer solstice party with healthy treats and fun drinks. Also on my party agenda: Streaming some stellar summertime entertainment for my guests!

1. “A League of Their Own” streaming on Hulu Plus (free with subscription)

Is there anything that screams summer more than baseball? I think not. And this film, starring Geena Davis, Madonna and Tom Hanks, is all about baseball – strike that – women in baseball. This funny, heartwarming film will keep you entertained on a hot summer day and wishing that there was still a professional women’s baseball league.

2. “Clueless” streaming on Amazon Prime (free with subscription)

You say you don’t like ’90s interpretations of Jane Austen novels. Ugh. As if! This fun film is roughly based off Austen’s novel, “Emma.” It’s a must-watch movie, in my opinion, and is a perfect flick to watch on a lazy summer day.

3. “Jaws” streaming on Vudu (available to rent)

Nothing beats hitting the beach on a hot summer day. But unfortunately, the people of Amity Island don’t have that option. A giant white shark is terrorizing the beach and driving paying tourists away. So, what’s a mayor to do? Hire a band of shark-fighting misfits to take back summer, catch a shark and save a city.

4. “The Graduate” streaming on Netflix (free with subscription)

We’ve all been there. The summer after college graduation can be brutal. Living at home, finding a job — finding yourself — it’s all tough. Dustin Hoffman’s performance in this classic reminds us all just how slow the summer can tick along when you’re still trying to figure it all out.

7. “Ghostbusters” on Hulu Plus: Bill Murray and crew go after a mess of ghosts that have invaded New York. This title was originally released in the summer and is best watched with some popcorn and a cold, homemade lemonade.

1. Classic: “Reefer Madness” was released in 1938 as a propaganda film. This classic piece of cinema tells the tale of the terrible things that can happen when young people smoke marijuana. Since its release, it has become a cult classic. The movie is known for its over-the-top acting. This movie is available on Hulu and is free to screen.

2. Documentary: Everyone knows Deepak Chopra is one of the people to research when you’re feeling lost. So, if you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed today, give the documentary, “The Happiness Prescription: The Secret to Experiencing a Joyful Life” a try. The film examines how humans can find true happiness. This title is available on Hulu plus and is free with a subscription.

4. Documentary: “The Stories We Tell” is full of twists and turns and tells the story of a family. But as we all know, every family has a lot of stories to tell, and discovering which stories are fact, and which are myth, can be quite difficult.

5. Comedy: “Three Men and a Baby” was, quite possibly, one of my favorite films to watch growing up. The 1987 film stars Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson, and follows the men while they learn how to raise — and learn to care for — a baby who mysteriously ends up at their front door.

6. Thriller: “Escape From Tomorrow” is a 2013 movie that was filmed in Disney World — without Disney’s permission. This low-budget movie was filmed in black and white, and follows a a husband/father during a trip to the Happiest Place on Earth as he begins to lose his mind.

7. Drama/Sci-Fi/Romance: “Her,” a 2014 film directed by Spike Jonze, was lauded as one of the year’s best films. It follows a lonely writer (Joaquin Phoenix) who begins to develop an intimate relationship with his operating system (voiced by Scarlett Johansson).
