Get cozy and hibernate like a boss.

As you read this, the latest snowstorm is probably bearing down on most of the continental United States right now. While some states have had a milder winter (umm, Hawaii), most of us have been freezing since late October. That means it’s time to make like Yogi and Boo Boo and get into some serious hibernating.

While humans cannot literally hibernate, that doesn’t mean we can’t make our best attempt at figuratively hibernating the winter away. As a longtime hibernating expert, I know there are some must-haves for hibernating in style like a boss. So, whether you are rolling into your space after a long day at work or rolling out of bed on the weekend, check out these finds for hibernating just like a pro.

Warm Slippers Socks

Slipper socks are a stylish must-have for any hibernating enthusiast. Preferably knee length ones that will fit over your other pair of socks!

Warm Throw

Pick your poison when it comes to what kind of throw you want to hibernate under this winter. Do you prefer a flannel, knit or wool version? It’s all about what makes you feel the coziest.

Wine in a Box

Wine is also very nice when setting in for a good hibernating. And boxed wines make an eco-friendlier choice–not to mention most boxes tend to hold more than one bottle’s worth of vino. Bota Box makes a pretty good boxed wine.

Floor pillows and poufs are in. Okay, they have been in, but I’m slow to catch on. They make perfect alternative seating for informal dinner parties, game nights, patio garden parties, or just kicking back to watch the latest on Netflix. Lots of home decor shops from West Elm, One Kings Lane, IKEA, and many others, are offering up plenty of options to suit your style and budget. Back in my day, floor pillows were just for kids. It was my parents way of not feeling so badly about the fact that they got to hog the couch on TV nights. Navy blue is the new black–not just for your wardrobe, but in your home as well. Designers are pointing to navy blue to be one of 2014’s hottest (and coolest) home decor and design trends.

If you haven’t already been seeing navy in magazines and featured on TV design shows, you will soon. According to interior designer Mark D. Sikes, “Navy blue will be a big trend for 2014. I’m seeing a lot of the shade on the runways, on the streets, in editorials, in chic interiors…I actually think everyone will get it in 2014.”

Navy is being touted as the new neutral, which we love. It can really be paired with just about any other color: tangerine, orange, black, silver, cream, brick red, radiant orchid, you name it and navy will work.

There’s also a very luxe quality about navy blue, but it will work for a variety of home decor types–contemporary, modern eclectic, cottage, boho and more. It’s a deep color that can add wonderful drama to any room.

But, how to incorporate navy blue into your home? Here’s some inspiration.

Ombre is a color technique in which colors graduate into each other from light to dark. It’s also a recent color trend for hair, home and fashion.

The ombre technique is a great way to add color to your home in a surprising way. It’s also very calming and welcoming can add a sense of warmth to any room. Ombre can instill a bit of fun into your interiors and depending on how you use the trend, it can come across as sophisticated or as bohemian–it’s all how you style it.

The effect can shift from lighter to darker shades of one color or blend from one color to another color for a more dramatic effect. Creating the effect can be as simple as using 3 levels of gradient (e.g., from white to light blue to dark blue) or can involve many more transitions–all are on trend and stunning. In addition, the transitions can be sharply delineated with clear contrast between the gradients or the transitions from one shade to another can be gradual and subtle.

1. Dollar Store Spring Ombre Vases – take dollar store or thrift store glass vases and paint to these spring-inspired vases.
2. DIY Ombre Art – make your own wall art with some recycled plywood and paint. Use this lovely pink and white piece as inspiration.
