<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">For the past 25 years, the </span><a href="https://www.spiritualresearchfoundation.org/spiritual-healing/spiritual-healing-principles/i-need-healing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Spiritual Science Research Foundation</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> (SSRF) has stood by the notion that “eighty percent of problems in life have their root cause in the spiritual dimension,” explaining that “the overwhelming importance of spiritual healing in solving problems in one’s life.” The SSRF also suggests that in order to have fewer life problems, you can’t overlook the need for guidance and a proper understanding of the spiritual realm.  </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">This is where expertly-trained advisor, intuitive healer, and founder of </span><a href="http://matterandhome.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Matter &amp; Home</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, purveyor of sacred objects meant to enhance one&#8217;s spiritual practice, Holly Star, comes in.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Star recalls the pivotal moment while living in Indonesia that she fell seriously ill and met a female healer who delivered an ominous, yet life-changing, message. “She explained if I did not go into healing, I would die on that island, as this was my calling,” said Star. “I knew she was right, so from there I began to work on my own way of seeing and expressing.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/2017/11/HEADSHOT2BW.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-large wp-image-163424" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/2017/11/HEADSHOT2BW-722x1024.jpg" alt="Matter and Home: Sacred Objects + Spiritual Healing" width="722" height="1024" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2017/11/HEADSHOT2BW-722x1024.jpg 722w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2017/11/HEADSHOT2BW-440x625.jpg 440w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2017/11/HEADSHOT2BW-768x1090.jpg 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2017/11/HEADSHOT2BW-600x851.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 722px) 100vw, 722px" /></a></span></p><div id="inContentContiner"><!-- /4450967/ES-In-Content -->

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I studied and meditated for many years in Japan, Bali, India, and California. Mostly secluded in the mountains,” explains Star. “I studied what I saw, deciphering patterns and how they relate to the body. I also studied herbal medicine, energetic medicine, activations, and the basics, like Reiki and Kung Fu.” Star made it her focus to to acquaint herself with “energy and life force.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Although studying is an important aspect of being an advisor and intuitive healer, it quite often takes a quality from within, perhaps partly innate, to truly understand what the soul is craving. The desire to want to know and help others on such a deep level requires care and dedication, something that not everyone is cut out for.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Star, however, took to this transformative life-path and never veered, “Upon coming back to the states, I started my own healing practice and it grew fast.” Although she credits the swift exchange that only a hub like New York City can bring, Star’s reliance on her word of mouth business model naturally thrived.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/2017/11/MH_Lifestyles2013_0001.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-large wp-image-163425" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/2017/11/MH_Lifestyles2013_0001-683x1024.jpg" alt="Matter and Home: Sacred Objects + Spiritual Healing" width="683" height="1024" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2017/11/MH_Lifestyles2013_0001-683x1024.jpg 683w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2017/11/MH_Lifestyles2013_0001-417x625.jpg 417w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2017/11/MH_Lifestyles2013_0001-768x1152.jpg 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2017/11/MH_Lifestyles2013_0001-600x900.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Star’s </span><a href="http://believeinstars.com/main/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">intuitive healing practice</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> often centers around clients on a long-term or ongoing basis. She describes the process as going through a “very intensive and deep exploration to re-evaluate one’s life and get it to flow more freely.” </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In addition to one-on-one spiritual healing, Star also offers space cleanings described as, “an assessment of a home and/or piece of land,&#8221; where Star will do clearings to &#8220;reset the tone or rhythm of the energy to be compatible with the client’s own energy and level of movement. The goal is to create harmony between the physical space [or] environment and the people inhabiting it.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Because of Star’s demanding schedule, and her desire to set her clients up for success by teaching them to develop their own inner growth and intuition practices, she came up with the idea to create custom candles and meditation boxes that provided portable and beautiful spiritual healing vessels. That way, even when Star couldn’t be there, her clients still had something tangible to remind them of their personal growth, journey, and goals.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">From the very passion Star began sharing with her clients, Matter &amp; Home was born. Proudly, “creating sacred objects with purpose,” her business focuses on creating transformative ritual and functional objects that can be used, per the website, in “meditation, personal growth, and to uplift and support the body, heart, mind and spirit.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/2017/11/square2.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-large wp-image-163427" src="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/2017/11/square2-1024x754.jpg" alt="Matter and Home: Sacred Objects + Spiritual Healing" width="1024" height="754" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2017/11/square2-1024x754.jpg 1024w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2017/11/square2-625x460.jpg 625w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2017/11/square2-768x565.jpg 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2017/11/square2-600x442.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“This is a home accessory line that is aligned with medicines, gemstones, prayer and nature,” Star remarks, “I am hoping to start a conversation to bridge nature and spirit back into home and bridge people to their own self-care and practice to find one’s self.” From foragers who collect medicines in regional forests, to a family in charge of engraving the candles, all of the materials and production for items sold on Matter &amp; Home are done locally. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Customized medicinal boxes, restorative candles, meditation and crystal boxes, and a stunning lunar altar table are some of the items from Matter &amp; Home that have been thoughtfully designed to promote spiritual healing. With easy to follow, and often detailed descriptions, you can very easily navigate the site to find what best fits your needs. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I think what we see around us, is what we adapt to and mimic in ways,&#8221; Star says. &#8220;To have beautiful elements that support us to be flexible, soft, and strong, we get a sense that we have all the support in the world with us.”</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">With a fresh year usually comes the desire to get your life in order. And when your day-to-day consists of working to get around your stuff, instead of making your stuff work for you, then that usually means it&#8217;s time for a change. Whether you&#8217;re plagued with too many things, or you live in a small space, we&#8217;ve gathered some tips to help you declutter your home and organize the bulky and awkward items that have overstayed their welcome. </span></p>
<p><b>1. Holiday Decor</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ah yes, the dreaded post-holiday cleanup is no less dreadful, but can be much more productive. The idea here is functionality, and the thought that you&#8217;ll keep these storage containers around for years. Pick up a duffle bag designed especially for your artificial tree, a few collapsible tarp bins for linens and blankets, and those boxes with individual compartments for your ornaments and other odds and ends. </span></p><div id="inContentContiner"><!-- /4450967/ES-In-Content -->
    <div id="div-gpt-ad-1430927735854-0">
    <script type="text/javascript">

      googletag.pubads().refresh([adslot4]);
    });
    </script>
    </div>

    <!-- ES-In-Content
		<script type="text/javascript">
		GA_googleFillSlot("ES-In-Content");
		</script>--></div>
<p><b>2. Food Items</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Buying food in bulk is a great way to get better prices at your health food store, and saves trips to the grocery store. Keeping these items fresh is critical, therefore, we recommend glass containers with airtight lids in the shape of a square. This way you can fit them in your cabinets without wasting space due to a cylindrical exterior. </span></p>
<p><b>3. Pots and Pans</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Storing clean pots and pans in your oven when not in use? Yeah, you know who you are. Well kick that habit to the curb by investing in a couple of towel bars a la Ikea (or shop something like the Habitat for Humanity Restore) and hang those babies up. A few S-hooks are all you&#8217;ll need display your cookware and have a place to rest the lids. </span></p>
<p><b>4. Clothes</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sweaters, handbags, and shoes are all bulky, and closet space is precious, so let&#8217;s fix this problem. A great way to store these items is to get yourself a trunk or two that you can be placed somewhere in your room (perhaps in lieu of your current nightstand or at the foot of the bed) where you can keep your clothes and accessories, especially the seasonal stuff. Aside from that, getting a multi-tier shoe rack is seriously life changing. And don’t be afraid to post up some peg board in your closet to hang smaller handbags and jewelry. </span></p>
<p><b>5. Books</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Maybe you prefer paper to digital, and that’s totally fine, but as any book collector knows, these can quickly take over your life. A bookshelf is an obvious place to start, but for something less traditional you could use crates (these also double as end tables and coffee tables), those cool floating bookshelves, or rolling storage cubes that can be used to create temporary book nooks whenever and wherever you need one. </span></p>
<p><b>6. Hand Tools</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Every person needs a set of tools. The extent to which you collect and use them, however, will vary greatly. That doesn’t mean you don’t need proper storage, though, so try a few of these ideas around your house. Magnetic strips are perfect catchalls for screws, washers, and other metal hand tools, and they don’t use any shelf space. Glass jars that screw into lids attached to the underside of shelves or cabinets offer lots of storage for supplies. And finally, pegboard is the ultimate way to declutter your tools. From hanging your hammer to putting up pliers, you can seriously mount just about any hand tool to pegboard. Check out </span><a href="http://www.thecreativityexchange.com/2014/01/diy-garage-pegboard-storage-wall-pegboard-possibilities.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">this garage</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> for some inspiration. </span></p>
<p><b>7. </b><b>Exercise Equipment</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This won’t really help you with huge pieces like treadmills and elliptical machines, but you can certainly find homes for those free weights and resistance bands. Baskets, wire bins, hooks, and storage benches are all viable solutions for that workout gear. The baskets can make free weights and kettlebells look wrangled; hooks can hold your resistance bands, towels, and yoga mat; and the storage bench can be a place to store sneakers. </span></p>
<p><b>8. Cleaning Supplies</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Can’t live with them (when they’re in disarray), and can’t live without them. A wall-mounted set-up that secures brooms, rakes, and pretty much anything else with a handle is a must-have. Bonus points if it has little hooks for hanging miscellaneous tools. Or, you can opt for a free-standing cabinet that is tall, but narrow. And if all else fails, just use pegboard. Seriously. </span></p>

<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you’re ready to help the planet while also </span></i><a href="http://ecosalon.com/7-alternative-new-years-resolutions-because-yolo/"><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">improving yourself</span></i></a><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">, then you’re going to love our earth-friendly New Year’s resolutions.</span></i></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Eating healthier, exercising more, and cutting out the procrastination may be at the top of your New Year&#8217;s resolutions list; and while we applaud your desire to be a better person (from the inside-out), we implore you to take things one step further by incorporating Mother Nature, too. Not only will our suggestions benefit you, but they&#8217;ll also help green your planet in small ways, bringing a greater sense of holistic living to your life. </span></p>
<p><b>1. Eat Less Meat</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Current figures say that </span><a href="https://www.sustainweb.org/sustainablefood/meat_and_dairy_products_less_is_more/" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">global animal farming</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> is responsible for nearly a third (or almost 30 percent) of all emissions worldwide. Furthermore, in addition to making you healthier, an </span><a href="https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/mar/21/eat-less-meat-vegetarianism-dangerous-global-warming" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Oxford Martin School research</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> study finds that a widespread switch to vegetarianism would reduce food-related emissions by 63 percent. Start by participating in Meatless Mondays, and ask yourself if you really need a meat or dairy product present at every meal of the day &#8212; three meals a day multiplied by seven days means consuming meat 21 times a week. Not only does this slow digestion, but it also raises cholesterol and </span><a href="https://www.theguardian.com/science/2016/apr/28/eating-too-much-red-meat-can-age-the-body-researchers-claim" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">causes premature aging</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. </span></p><div id="inContentContiner"><!-- /4450967/ES-In-Content -->
    <div id="div-gpt-ad-1430927735854-0">
    <script type="text/javascript">

    </script>
    </div>

    <!-- ES-In-Content

<p><b>2. Ditch Plastic Bags</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It’s time to ditch the plastic bags in favor of reusable totes &#8211; but, like, for real this time. </span><a href="https://www.reusethisbag.com/25-reasons-to-go-reusable.php" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Only around two percent</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> of plastic bags get recycled annually, while the rest just sit, and sit, and sit some more in our landfills and oceans. Throw those cloth bags in the car and keep them there, so you don’t forget them at home, or try something even more practical, like a roomy (and stylish) backpack for carrying on small trips that you can then fill with your merchandise after paying at the register. </span></p>
<p><b>3. Upcycle Your Textiles</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">With the rise of fast fashion (and fast lifestyles), the average citizen now </span><a href="http://ecosalon.com/clothing-swap-party-101-everything-you-need-to-know-to-host-your-own/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">throws away 70 pounds of clothing and textiles</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> each year, which means this waste also accounts for five percent of all landfill space. With numbers like that, it’s important to come up with solutions. Clothing swaps are great (and fun, and free) ways to do away with gently used stuff in your closet, all while having an excuse to get together and drink wine with your girlfriends. And don’t forget about all of the amazing </span><a href="http://ecosalon.com/diy-10-things-to-do-with-an-old-t-shirt/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">upcycling potential your clothes have</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. </span></p>
<p><b>4. Pledge To Recycle</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">All it takes is a small step, a little action, to really get things moving in the residential recycling department. For curbside pickup, check with your local ordinance and get the bins you need. Next, head to the store and pick up one extra garbage can to start with, and begin with a product like plastics, or aluminum, or paper, or glass. Just focus on recycling one category to begin with, and watch your passion grow. Apparently, </span><a href="https://www.dosomething.org/us/facts/11-facts-about-recycling" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">recycling 100 cans could light your bedroom</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> for two weeks. Imaging the difference you could make!</span></p>
<p><b>5. Compost Your Scraps</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you make a conscious decision to compost at home, you could break down the egg shells, banana peels, and other organic waste that would otherwise sit contained in a plastic garbage bag sealed off from the earth and soil it could otherwise nourish. This process is as simple as </span><a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_articles.asp?id=1323" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">setting up an outside receptacle</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> that fits your needs (the setup is usually the most intensive, if you can call it that), collecting your scraps after cooking (</span><a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_articles.asp?id=1323&amp;page=3" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">and some other activities</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">), and placing them in the outside bin where they will decompose, rendering you a rich, fertile compound that can be added to your garden. </span></p>
<p><b>6. Grow Something Edible</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Even if it’s as small as an indoor herb garden, there is real power behind growing your own food. Edible plants and gardens will not only save you money and potentially improve your health, but they offer a sense of accomplishment for your efforts, and help </span><a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_articles.asp?id=1275" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">reduce widespread farming issues</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. Build (or buy) a </span><a href="http://thecouponproject.com/frugal-gardening-four-inexpensive-raised-bed-ideas/" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">small raised garden bed</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> outdoors and get to planting, or research all of the delicious herbs and fruits and </span><a href="http://greatist.com/health/best-plants-to-grow-indoors" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">veggies you can grow indoors</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> &#8212; you may be surprised at the (yard-less) possibilities!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We hope you&#8217;ve enjoyed our suggestions for a cleaner planet and body. As always, we want to know what you think, so be sure to let us know your New Year’s resolutions on the </span><a href="https://www.facebook.com/ecosaloncom"><span style="font-weight: 400;">EcoSalon Facebook page</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">! <p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Still need some great </span></i><a href="http://ecosalon.com/7-easy-and-eco-friendly-diy-stocking-stuffer-ideas-that-dont-suck/"><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Christmas</span></i></a><i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> decorating ideas? We’ve got several hacks that will reuse, repurpose, and incorporate sustainable materials and methods &#8212; all while looking fabulous!</span></i></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Not to sound like a total Scrooge or anything, but it’s probably important to know that according to the </span><a href="https://www3.epa.gov/region9/waste/recycling/" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">EPA</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, “the volume of household waste in the United States increases 25 percent between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day – about 1 million extra tons.” That means it’s up to us to reduce the amount of waste we produce this year. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">But don’t worry, it’s a lot easier than you think. Not only does the EPA have some seriously good ideas on how to accomplish this, but we have the scoop on sustainable decorating ideas that will help when excessive waste is at its peak. Fortunately, when it comes to decorating ideas, you don’t have to skimp on the festive touches around your home &#8212; all it really requires is a little bit of creativity and some elbow grease to accomplish these DIY ideas. Don’t believe us? See for yourself!</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you want to avoid chopping down a healthy tree this year, and opt out of buying better, yet still full of harmful chemicals, fake trees, then choose a hip DIY version.</span></p>
<p><b>1. Chalkboard Tree</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/chalkboard-doors-2.jpg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-159510" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/chalkboard-doors-2.jpg" alt="8 Christmas Decorating Ideas that You Can Whip Up Before the Big Day" width="555" height="417" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Have a chalkboard wall in your house? Need an excuse to have one? Well, your Christmas wish came early this year, because we can’t recommend this sketched tree and vintage light accompaniment enough. The possibilities for this are endless, and doesn’t have to stop at Christmas. Thanks to </span><a href="http://www.agoodehouse.com/2012/12/love-christmas-hate-to-decorate/" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">A Goode House</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> for the inspiration.</span></p>
<p><b>2. Repurposed Ladder</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/ladder-tree.jpg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-159517" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/ladder-tree.jpg" alt="8 Christmas Decorating Ideas that You Can Whip Up Before the Big Day" width="451" height="687" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Pull out that old wooden ladder and get to decorating. Use vines, lights, pine cones, burlap, and even some ornaments to recreate this rustic, shabby chic “tree” a la </span><a href="http://www.funkyjunkinteriors.net/2012/12/a-treeless-ladder-christmas-tree-day-10.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Funky Junk Interiors</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. The best part is that when it’s not lighting up your life, you can still keep the ladder around for its intended use. </span></p>
<p><b>3. Scrap Wood Tree</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Wood-Tree.jpg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-159516" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Wood-Tree-652x1024.jpg" alt="8 Christmas Decorating Ideas that You Can Whip Up Before the Big Day" width="455" height="714" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/12/Wood-Tree-652x1024.jpg 652w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/12/Wood-Tree-398x625.jpg 398w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/12/Wood-Tree-768x1207.jpg 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/12/Wood-Tree-600x943.jpg 600w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/12/Wood-Tree.jpg 800w" sizes="(max-width: 455px) 100vw, 455px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Who knew trees made from scrap wood could be so stunning? Simple, yet impactful, these Christmas trees use leftover wood to mimic the real thing. Although lacking in the green and bushy department, it’s still very warm, inviting, and seriously festive. Plus, it can be used year after year. Check out </span><a href="http://www.abeautifulmess.com/2012/11/diy-advent-tree.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">A Beautiful Mess</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> for the blog’s Christmas tree DIY. </span></p>
<p><b>Garland Ideas</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Deck your halls with strands of beautiful handmade garland. Ranging from natural fruit and spices to glistening rounds of leftover gift bags from Christmas past, then you’ll adore these ideas.</span></p>
<p><b>4. Food Garland</b></p>
<p><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Garland.jpeg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-159511" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Garland.jpeg" alt="8 Christmas Decorating Ideas that You Can Whip Up Before the Big Day" width="501" height="376" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/12/Garland.jpeg 616w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/12/Garland-600x450.jpeg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 501px) 100vw, 501px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://www.cookingchanneltv.com/recipes/homemade-garland.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Cooking Channel TV</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> has some super cool ideas for food-based garlands that can be composted, munched on, or repurposed when you’re through. The contrast of the popcorn and black licorice strand looks very modern and hip, the orange slices appear very fresh and lively, while the cinnamon stick and cranberry pairing lends a traditional Christmas touch. It’s hard to pick a favorite, so we’ll let you be the judge!</span></p>
<p><b>5. Pine Cone Garland</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/how_to_make_pinecone_garland.jpg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-159512" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/how_to_make_pinecone_garland.jpg" alt="8 Christmas Decorating Ideas that You Can Whip Up Before the Big Day" width="505" height="344" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/12/how_to_make_pinecone_garland.jpg 650w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/12/how_to_make_pinecone_garland-625x425.jpg 625w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/12/how_to_make_pinecone_garland-600x408.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 505px) 100vw, 505px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Pine cone garland is beautiful, rustic, and practically free! Hop on over to </span><a href="https://www.bobvila.com/slideshow/how-to-make-a-pine-cone-garland-21916" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Bob Vila</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> for instructions on how to make some of your own. From how to prep them (cleaning and baking) to how to hang them, they’ve got you covered. Make it as full or as sparse as you’d like and get creative &#8212; a dusting of gold leaf would add a festive touch.</span></p>
<p><b>6. Upcycled Garland</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/untitled-6997.jpg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-159515" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/untitled-6997.jpg" alt="8 Christmas Decorating Ideas that You Can Whip Up Before the Big Day" width="450" height="579" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/12/untitled-6997.jpg 505w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/12/untitled-6997-486x625.jpg 486w" sizes="(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Use the tutorial at </span><a href="http://www.paperdaisydesign.com/2015/12/gleaming-paper-circle-garland.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Paper Daisy Design</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> if you want to sew your garland, otherwise just glue them together, plain sides touching over a piece of string, twine, or thread. She uses store bought paper, but you can easily use old book pages, leftover holographic gift bags, or wrapping paper scraps. </span></p>
<p><b>Gift Wrap Ideas</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The gifts under your tree can add a lot of pizazz to your overall Christmas decor aura. Whether you choose fabric or paper, there&#8217;s an option for each, with some embellishment tips to boot.</span></p>
<p><b>7. Cloth and Fabric</b></p>

<p><em>With a few simple upcycling projects, you can take those old <a href="http://ecosalon.com/11-ways-the-world-drinks-coffee/">coffee</a> grounds and expired coffee beans and turn them into some pretty useful DIY products.</em></p>
<p>Coffee is like the peanut butter to my jelly, the milk to my cookies, the Kim to my Kanye. Coffee is the wind beneath my wings, and I would be completely useless without it. Yet, every day I seem to do away with its waste. Old grounds and beans get treated like second class citizens, and ya know what? That needs to change. My coffee deserves more respect, dammit, which is why I’ve found you these totally cool and useful upcycling projects using your leftover coffee stuff.</p>
<p><strong>1. Under Eye Cream</strong></p>
<p>Coffee-infused under eye cream is said to be life-changing. Apparently, this miracle working concoction will help reduce puffiness, reduce the appearance of dark circles, and help with fine lines.</p><div id="inContentContiner"><!-- /4450967/ES-In-Content -->
    <div id="div-gpt-ad-1430927735854-0">

    });
    </script>
    </div>

<p>In addition to the coffee oil, which you extract yourself, it calls for a variety of other skin nourishing carrier oils and butters &#8211; almost all of which I have used personally at one time or another and have had nothing but positive results. <a href="http://soapdelinews.com/2013/12/diy-natural-coffee-under-eye-cream-for-puffy-eyes.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Soap Deli News</span></a> shares the tutorial you need to conquer this project.</p>
<p><strong>2. Bar Soap</strong></p>
<p>The next upcycled DIY looks super simple to make and doesn’t require a lot of hard-to-find ingredients, precise measurements, or time. Plus, if you like the idea of French vanilla coffee, then you’ll love the smell of this vanilla extract-infused soap.</p>
<p>With just old coffee grounds, glycerine bar soap, vanilla, and equipment, like a muffin tin, you can create an exfoliating and deodorizing soap to help invigorate you morning, noon, and night. Clearly Natural makes a good bar soap that I’ve used before, and is a glycerine-based product that I think would work well for this project. Check out the full tutorial over at <a href="http://www.popsugar.com/smart-living/How-Make-Coffee-Ground-Soap-30647666" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Popsugar</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p>
<p><strong>3. Decorative Balls</strong></p>
<p>Everyone needs a decorative ball or two or ten in their lives, but the storebought types are expensive, and can be kinda wasteful. Instead, I’ve got a hybrid project for you (fully upcycled if you use old tennis balls) that uses styrofoam orbs and old coffee beans.</p>
<p>The blogger actually uses beans for eating, but if you follow her instructions over at <a href="http://loveseweetlove.blogspot.com/2011/05/bean-balls.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Love Sweet Love</span></a>, then I’m confident you can use the expired coffee assortment you have on hand. It’s basically a layer of coordinating paint (brown in this case), some hot glue, and some patience. Other decorative uses for old beans would be filler for jars, and as a base layer in which to nestle your candles.</p>
<p><strong>4. Scented Candle</strong></p>
<p>Speaking of candles, this DIY project is guaranteed to make your house smell like a vanilla latte all day long. The tutorial from <a href="http://helloglow.co/diy-candles/" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hello Glow</span></a> calls for using your own gorgeous glassware, reusing unscented candles (or you can buy wax chips), a wick, whole coffee beans, and chopped vanilla beans. I can’t believe how beautiful these look. They would make awesome gifts and the aesthetic possibilities are endless!</p>
<p><strong>5. Face Mask</strong></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Take the benefits of coffee to your face by making and using this simple ground face mask. Yes, it might look a little silly at first, but if it’s true that coffee reduces redness, increases circulation, and exfoliates the skin, then it’s totally worth it. </span></p>
<p><a href="http://beautybanter.com/diy-coffee-face-mask" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Beauty Banter</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> uses whole ground coffee beans, but you can simply apply the grounds from this morning’s coffee. Combine these with a few other natural ingredients like honey, lemon juice, cocoa powder, and milk or almond milk, and you’ll be ready for your close-up in no time.</span></p>
<p><strong>6. Wood Stain</strong></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you’re turned off by the idea of using a stinky, toxic commercial wood stain, then you’ll love this new medium. </span><a href="http://diy-vintage-chic.blogspot.com/2013/04/natural-wood-stain-tutorial.html?m=1" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">DIY Vintage Chic</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> has a great tutorial on how to create and use a coffee and vinegar based wood stain. The results are subtle at first, but after allowing it to sit for a week, the finished product is quite impressive. Not only that, but it’s natural, uses your old grounds, and doesn’t emit any noxious chemicals. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">I hope you’ve been inspired by these upcycled projects that utilize old coffee beans and grounds. If you go through as much coffee as I do, then you know just how useful these can be. <p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Every kitchen could use a pick-me-up now and then, which is why we’ve rounded up a handful of kitchen DIY </span></i><a href="http://ecosalon.com/10-sustainable-kitchen-backsplash-ideas/"><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">ideas</span></i></a><i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> just in time for the holidays.</span></i></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Whether you have five days, five hours, or five minutes, take some time and freshen up the heart of your home. Even if you’re not a savvy DIY-er, many of these projects take very little creativity or technical skills to accomplish.</span></p>
<p><b>1. Chic Shelf Paper</b></p><div id="inContentContiner"><!-- /4450967/ES-In-Content -->
    <div id="div-gpt-ad-1430927735854-0">
    <script type="text/javascript">

      googletag.display("div-gpt-ad-1430927735854-0");
      googletag.pubads().refresh([adslot4]);
    });
    </script>
    </div>

    <!-- ES-In-Content
		<script type="text/javascript">
		GA_googleFillSlot("ES-In-Content");
		</script>--></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/hutch.jpeg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-158831" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/hutch.jpeg" alt="7 Simple Kitchen DIY Ideas You Can Actually Accomplish Before the Holidays" width="616" height="822" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/hutch.jpeg 616w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/hutch-468x625.jpeg 468w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/hutch-600x801.jpeg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Shelf liner, wallpaper, and even leftover wrapping paper are great ways to freshen up your cabinets. First, it’s perfect for covering up less than savory looking shelf bottoms on older cabinets and inside drawers. It will add a pop of color, or a fun geometric pattern. And finally, it can bring life to open shelving areas, spots where you may have removed your upper cabinet doors altogether, and glass front cabinets, including the china hutch that desperately needs a makeover, like </span><a href="http://www.hgtv.com/design/make-and-celebrate/handmade/how-to-wallpaper-the-inside-of-a-china-cabinet" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">this “after” beauty over at HGTV</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Choose a patterned option for something fun and unexpected, especially if you plan on having your in-laws over for the holidays. You never know when they might be trying to snoop, I mean, find the plates so they can set the table, silly! Another option for a more eco-friendly touch is choosing cork liner. This earthy tone and texture would look great with cabinets that are white, gray, black, or dark brown for a nice color contrast. </span></p>
<p><b>2. Savvy Storage</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/storage.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-158834" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/storage.jpg" alt="7 Simple Kitchen DIY Ideas You Can Actually Accomplish Before the Holidays" width="648" height="486" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/storage.jpg 648w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/storage-625x469.jpg 625w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/storage-600x450.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Don’t settle for looking at a boring sack of flour or bag of sugar, if you’re doing any cooking in your kitchen this season, make it easier on the eyes and more efficient by swapping out bulky baggies for cool canisters. Whether you opt for </span><a href="http://www.ca.momtastic.com/diy/174157-chalkboard-mason-jar-lids-diy/" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Momtastic blog’s mason jar hack</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, complete with chalkboard lids for easy labeling, or prefer a modern geometric look to your containers, make it happen before the guests start pouring in.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Branch out from only organizing the ingredients &#8211; your tools are just as important. Pick up a few natural baskets or revamped thrift store trays that you can display on your kitchen counters, and fill or stack these with your important tools, like the rolling pin, your cookbook, small cutting board, your favorite seasonings, a paring knife, and other go-to items that you can tote around the space as you cook. </span></p>
<p><b>3. Peg Board</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/pegboard.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-large wp-image-158832" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/pegboard-1024x725.jpg" alt="7 Simple Kitchen DIY Ideas You Can Actually Accomplish Before the Holidays" width="1024" height="725" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/pegboard.jpg 1024w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/pegboard-625x443.jpg 625w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/pegboard-768x544.jpg 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/pegboard-600x425.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If your oven also doubles as the storage space for your pots and pans, then it’s time to find a solution before you end up playing musical chairs with your cooking vessels. Peg board is a great way to make room for these items without the need for extra cabinet or counter space. Simply hang a sheet, paint it, grab your hooks, and start organizing. And don’t limit this kitchen DIY to only pots and pans &#8211; cooking utensils, cheese graters, colanders, and pretty much anything with a handle or a hole that doesn’t weigh a ton can be hung here, too. Check out the </span><a href="http://inspiredbycharm.com/2014/09/pegboard-kitchen-storage.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">simple how-to from Inspired by Charm</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. </span></p>
<p><b>4. Seating Solutions</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/yellow.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-158835" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/yellow.jpg" alt="7 Simple Kitchen DIY Ideas You Can Actually Accomplish Before the Holidays" width="800" height="533" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/yellow.jpg 800w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/yellow-625x416.jpg 625w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/yellow-768x512.jpg 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/yellow-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Don’t be tempted to turn your shindig into a B.Y.O.C. event. Instead, create more seating from thrift store finds, or add a little personality to the barstools and chairs you already own. One great solution is to pick up some secondhand seating, even if they don’t match, and create continuity by painting them all the same color, or variations of the same, like they did </span><a href="http://www.abeautifulmess.com/2012/12/nes.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">over at A Beautiful Mess</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. And still going strong is the popular look of adding just a splash of color by dip dying the legs of chairs and barstools. Either way, these are top notch for a stylish eat-in kitchen. </span></p>
<p><b>5. Open Shelving</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/shelves-top.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-158833" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/shelves-top.jpg" alt="7 Simple Kitchen DIY Ideas You Can Actually Accomplish Before the Holidays" width="640" height="467" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/shelves-top.jpg 640w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/shelves-top-625x456.jpg 625w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/shelves-top-600x438.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Open shelving is a great way to display your favorite kitchen possessions, allowing for more storage space in other areas. You can accomplish this by going the traditional thick wood shelf and bracket route, which is always a winner, or by trying something less conventional. Hanging metal baskets are perfect for storing produce, and wall-mounted crates are great rustic ways to display and store kitchen goods. The </span><a href="http://www.11magnolialane.com/2015/05/13/diy-stained-open-shelving-and-a-giveaway/" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">DIY from 11 Magnolia Lane</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> turned out great!</span></p>
<p><b>6. Bar Cart</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/bar-cart-after-2.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-158829" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/bar-cart-after-2.jpg" alt="7 Simple Kitchen DIY Ideas You Can Actually Accomplish Before the Holidays" width="500" height="722" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/bar-cart-after-2.jpg 500w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/bar-cart-after-2-433x625.jpg 433w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A cool bar cart, whether revamped from a small dresser, large nightstand, or just a really outdated original, is a great little piece to include in your kitchen. Putting it on casters, if it isn’t already, makes it mobile so you can trek it all around the house. When the holidays roll around, one handy way to make use of your bar cart is to set up a self-serve area with a signature cocktail or hot chocolate station that guests can interact with. This </span><a href="http://www.designsponge.com/2013/06/before-after-bar-cart-makeover.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">bar cart re-do from Design Sponge</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> is the perfect inspiration piece. </span></p>
<p><b>7. Freshen Up</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/how-to-make-a-flower-arrangement.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-large wp-image-158830" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/how-to-make-a-flower-arrangement-683x1024.jpg" alt="7 Simple Kitchen DIY Ideas You Can Actually Accomplish Before the Holidays" width="683" height="1024" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/how-to-make-a-flower-arrangement-683x1024.jpg 683w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/how-to-make-a-flower-arrangement-417x625.jpg 417w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/how-to-make-a-flower-arrangement-600x900.jpg 600w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/how-to-make-a-flower-arrangement.jpg 700w" sizes="(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Fresh fruits and veggies are instant kitchen brighteners. Help them stand out by grouping in a large bowl on your counter, or in a trio of glass jars. The vibrant color from a big vessel filled with lemons or green apples is always a nice touch. Another option is stand alone produce, like a gathering of pumpkins, whether decorated or as-is, displayed on your counter. Fresh cut flowers also provide an instant kitchen pick-me-up. A vase, jar, or pitcher filled with a bunch of budding botanicals adds the perfect for a splash of color. Grab some on the morning of your gathering from the local farmer’s market. </span><a href="http://www.yummymummykitchen.com/2016/05/how-to-make-flower-arrangement.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Yummy Mummy Kitchen</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> has great flower arranging tips.</span></p>

<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Fall is upon us, which means the holidays will soon be here, but don&#8217;t worry &#8211; we have seven beautiful and eco-friendly home decor pieces that are perfect for warming up <a href="http://ecosalon.com/psychology-of-interior-design-can-help-you-have-a-happy-home/">your home</a> and welcoming guests just in time for the festivities.</span></i></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Combine getting your home in tip-top shape with the impending holidays, and you&#8217;ve got the recipe for a panic attack. Sometimes, getting your hands on good looking eco-friendly home decor can be hard to do, especially when all your time is being spent breathing heavily into a paper bag. (Just sayin&#8217;.)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Luckily, though, I&#8217;ve gone ahead and rounded up seven gorgeous pieces that just about anyone would want to have in their home. Take a peek at my choices, and either snag one for yourself, pick one up for a lucky recipient&#8211;or glean a little holiday inspiration for the season.</span></p><div id="inContentContiner"><!-- /4450967/ES-In-Content -->

<p><b>1. <a href="http://www.vivaterra.com/loloi-nika-marbled-cotton-throw.html" target="_blank">Marbled Handwoven Throw</a></b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Marble.jpg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-158593" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Marble.jpg" alt="7 Warm and Inviting Eco-Friendly Home Decor Pieces You Won't Want to Miss" width="530" height="530" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Marble.jpg 1000w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Marble-350x350.jpg 350w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Marble-625x625.jpg 625w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Marble-768x768.jpg 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Marble-600x600.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hello, Gorgeous! I have officially found my new favorite home decor accent. I mean, who doesn&#8217;t want a little marble in every room of the house, right? And the best part about this all-cotton throw, aside from the awesome marbled look, is that it&#8217;s artisan made and handwoven. Toss this over your favorite chair, and use it to stay toasty on cool fall evenings.</span></p>
<p><b>2. <a href="https://www.bambeco.com/Kitchen-Accessories/Bambeco-Reclaimed-Wood-iPad-Cook-Book-Holder.asp" target="_blank">Reclaimed Cookbook Holder</a></b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Cookbook.jpeg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-158591" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Cookbook.jpeg" alt="7 Warm and Inviting Eco-Friendly Home Decor Pieces You Won't Want to Miss" width="530" height="530" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Cookbook.jpeg 570w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Cookbook-350x350.jpeg 350w" sizes="(max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Perfect for the chef of the house, and especially for those easily distracted, burn-the-Tofurky kinda cooks, this beautiful stand with warm, reclaimed wood and steel accents is perfect for nailing all of your holiday recipes. The best part, aside from its sustainability and good looks, is that it doesn&#8217;t matter if you prefer old fashioned paper, or a tech-based recipe reader, the stand can easily accommodate either.</span></p>
<p><b>3. <a href="https://hookandloom.com/product/wild-diamonds-eco-cotton-rug-orange-white/" target="_blank">Geometric Eco-Cotton Rug</a></b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Rug.jpg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-158594" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Rug-712x1024.jpg" alt="7 Warm and Inviting Eco-Friendly Home Decor Pieces You Won't Want to Miss" width="530" height="763" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Rug-712x1024.jpg 712w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Rug-435x625.jpg 435w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Rug-768x1104.jpg 768w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Rug-600x863.jpg 600w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Rug.jpg 800w" sizes="(max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Treat your guests and yourself with a soft new rug underfoot. Not only is this modern geometric carpet beautiful, but it&#8217;s also </span><a href="https://hookandloom.com/eco/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">ethically made</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> by employees who are of legal working age and treated well. This particular rug is from the eco-cotton collection, which uses clean donated textiles to spin new yarn, so you can give thanks for innovative techniques this season, as well.</span></p>
<p><b>4. <a href="https://www.bambeco.com/Kitchen-Accessories/Bambeco-Teak-Salt-and-Pepper-Set.asp" target="_blank">Teak Salt and Pepper Set</a></b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/SaltPepper.jpeg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-158595" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/SaltPepper.jpeg" alt="7 Warm and Inviting Eco-Friendly Home Decor Pieces You Won't Want to Miss" width="530" height="530" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/SaltPepper.jpeg 570w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/SaltPepper-350x350.jpeg 350w" sizes="(max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We believe good things come in small packages, just like this salt and pepper serving set. A great little story to share around the dinner table is that each one of these is crafted from excess materials from the logging industry, so no new trees are cut down for its making. Recommended for artisanal finishing salts and freshly ground pepper, it&#8217;s sure to be a hit.</span></p>
<p><b>5. <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/386855816/1132-02147-premier-line-metal-base-mid?ref=shop_home_feat_2#" target="_blank">Mid Century Tallboy</a></b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Tallboy.jpg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-158596" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Tallboy.jpg" alt="7 Warm and Inviting Eco-Friendly Home Decor Pieces You Won't Want to Miss" width="590" height="393" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This vintage tallboy is the perfect accent piece for an entry way, dining space, or living room. Fall decor would look fabulous against its high gloss black finish, and the clean lines work well in a variety of settings. Whether eclectic, modern, vintage, or transitional, a piece like this will really add a lot of style and warmth to any room.</span></p>
<p><b>6. <a href="http://www.vivaterra.com/loloi-handwoven-icy-ikat-fuzzy-pillow.html" target="_blank">Natural Fuzzy Ikat Pillow</a></b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Ikat.jpg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-158592" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Ikat.jpg" alt="7 Warm and Inviting Eco-Friendly Home Decor Pieces You Won't Want to Miss" width="475" height="475" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Ikat.jpg 495w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Ikat-350x350.jpg 350w" sizes="(max-width: 475px) 100vw, 475px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Next time you’re indulging in your hot cocoa and sappy holiday movie ritual, make sure you have this extra fuzzy Ikat pillow to <del>cry into</del> snuggle up with. Made from natural and sustainable materials, the unique design and conscientious craftsmanship is perfect for the boho-chic decor lover in us all. Trust me, your cat, Mr. Fluffy Pants, will thank you for it.</span></p>
<p><b>7. <a href="http://www.vivaterra.com/leopard-print-eco-upholstered-chair.html" target="_blank">Organic Eclectic Leopard Chair</a></b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Chair.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-158590" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Chair.jpg" alt="7 Warm and Inviting Eco-Friendly Home Decor Pieces You Won't Want to Miss" width="495" height="495" srcset="https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Chair.jpg 495w, https://storage.googleapis.com/wpesc/1/2016/10/Chair-350x350.jpg 350w" sizes="(max-width: 495px) 100vw, 495px" /></a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Be still, my heart! This leopard chair is on the tippy top of my wish list, but if you&#8217;re lucky enough to splurge now, then I&#8217;d definitely recommend working this into your living room, like now. With organic cotton, natural linen, recycled filling, and certified wood materials, this plush chair is sustainable and stylish. I can totally imagine this chair and that vintage tallboy being BFFs in some special person’s living room.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Don&#8217;t hate me ‘cause you want them all! But do relish in their gorgeousness and let the furnishings serve as inspiration for the holiday season. Not only can eco-friendly home decor be warm and inviting, it also proves that being stylish is better for the environment. And, even if your budget doesn&#8217;t have the room for new pieces right now, I can definitely see the DIY potential in a lot of these.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Whether you&#8217;re a professional or a do-it-yourselfer, residential interior design is a multifaceted field that often involves various stages of renovating, remodeling, and decorating homes&#8211;which, believe it or not, incorporates a fair amount of psychological know-how. All the way from space planning to wall colors to how your home is organized, every little detail has the ability to create an impact &#8211; both subliminally and explicitly. </span></p>

    <div id="div-gpt-ad-1430927735854-0">
    <script type="text/javascript">

    });
    </script>
    </div>

    <!-- ES-In-Content

		</script>--></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The goal of space planning is to create a harmonious flow within a space, and when things feel out of whack, then everything from productivity to basic comfort can take a hit. This integral part of interior design might involve floorplans or blueprints when doing things like knocking down walls or building additions. And for decorating purposes, space planning would refer to where you place your furnishings within the home and how those &#8220;force&#8221; its residents to move throughout and utilize the area.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Just because you don&#8217;t own your home or have the dough to remodel doesn&#8217;t mean you can&#8217;t improve the current situation. Making small steps to increase efficiency, and thereby creating a happier home, can go a long way. Take the opportunity to experiment by rearranging what you already have, or by eliminating a few pieces if the area is feeling claustrophobic. Leave some space around all sides of your furniture &#8211; in other words, don&#8217;t push your sofa against the wall. And if you&#8217;re kitchen is too small, invest in a small island on wheels that also has some storage built in &#8211; this could become your entire coffee brewing station in a tiny space.</span></p>
<p><b>Set the Mood with Color</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We experience color at every turn, so whether you love it, hate it, or fall somewhere in between, it is definitely here to stay. This inescapable facet of interior design and decorating can be uplifting, stimulating, relaxing, maddening, inspiring, and more. And when it comes to including color in the home, the hues you choose can have a direct impact on your mood. Although no two people see color exactly the same (Was that dress really white and gold, or was it blue and black?), there is legitimacy to how certain colors have the ability to alter our outlooks and perceptions.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">According to experts at </span><a href="http://www.dreamhomedecorating.com/color-psychology.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dream Home Decorating</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, just as a neutral interior color palette may appear calming and stylish to some, others may find it such a drag that only a cheerful and energizing yellow splashed on the walls could get them through the day. The site also gives great explanations on how darker colors can make a large room seem more intimate, how lighter colors can make a small space feel larger, and how warm and cool undertones can also make a difference. So, if you&#8217;re feeling blue, then maybe it&#8217;s time for an interior color overhaul &#8211; it may do your mental state a lot of good.</span></p>
<p><b>Cleanliness for a Clear Mind</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If a tidy space equals a clear mind, then why aren&#8217;t we taking more steps to improve our surroundings? One key to a happy home is by creating a simple routine to keep things clean, even if it&#8217;s as small as making your bed every morning, quickly clearing off the coffee table, or emptying the bathroom garbage every Wednesday and Sunday so you&#8217;re not faced with seeing it full to the brim throughout the week. Commit to spending just ten minutes a day cleaning up and you may find that all of these little things can make a huge difference.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">And don&#8217;t forget the importance of organizing. It can set the stage for keeping things clean on a regular basis. For example, if your shoes don&#8217;t have a home, then how do you expect them to stay off of the living room floor and out of the way? Invest in tools like a sturdy shoe rack for your closet or entryway, a bathroom organizer that hangs on the back of the door, or extra closet shelving. Ensuring that everything has a place in your home can be life changing</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">With so much time spent at home, improving how you feel when there is vital to your mental health, especially if you&#8217;re a sensitive person to begin with. And thanks to a greater understanding of how to lift your spirit and improve your mood, these tips should put you on the path to creating a happy home. What are some steps you&#8217;ve taken to improve your mood at home? <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Along with some strategically placed objects, like a piece of coral, a bunch of fresh colorful flowers, or a pair of ornate candle holders, a few great coffee table books always seem to add that extra &#8220;wow&#8221; factor to a well-decorated surface. Not only are they great conversation starters when entertaining guests, but they&#8217;re also great fodder for passing the time on a rainy afternoon. And, if you&#8217;re at all passionate about the environment, culture, fashion, animals, art, or photography then you&#8217;ll have the perfect catalysts for enjoyable banter thanks to these great books.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Centered around using natural materials, this user-friendly book teaches its curious readers how to dye &#8220;yarn, fabric, and finished goods at home with foraged and garden-raised dyestuffs as well as with convenient natural dye extracts.&#8221; There are 20 different projects that cater to different crafting skill levels contained within. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This book explores the cultural diversity that exists when it comes to our diets. Photographer Menzel and author-journalist D&#8217;Alusio chronicled what 30 different families in 24 different countries ate for a week. This amounted to 600 meals in total, and it showed just how prevalent feast and famine really are. One family in Germany enjoyed chocolate croissants, cinnamon rolls, and beef with a $500 a week grocery budget, while a family in Mali, with 12 people in the household, lived on corn and millet with a $26.39 weekly allowance.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This UNESCO supported project is &#8220;the result of a five-year airborne odyssey across five continents and 60 countries, &#8216;</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Earth from Above&#8217;</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> is the most revealing and spectacular portrait of our world ever created.&#8221; A testament to the natural wonder, inner workings, and also the fragility of our planet, Arthus-Bertrand, renowned French aerial photographer, captured these moments in time beautifully. This coffee table book is sure to be an awe-inspiring experience.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Scott published this eye-opening book as a follow up to her first, &#8220;</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Shelter Dogs</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">.&#8221; Within these covers are the glorious, sorrowful, and sometimes hopeful black and white photographs of shelter dogs that Scott encountered as a volunteer. Alongside these pictures are the unique stories about their pre-shelter lives and what the future holds for these gentle creatures. If you&#8217;re a dog lover who wants nothing more than to save them all, then this is a book to consider.</span></p>
<p><strong>5. &#8220;<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Make-Garbage-Great-Terracycle-Zero-Waste/dp/006234885X">Make Garbage Great: The Terracycle Family Guide to a Zero-Waste Lifestyle</a>&#8220;</strong></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">From &#8220;a world leader in the upcycling And recycling movement,&#8221; Terracycle has published a book that&#8217;s considered the &#8220;household primer to going and staying green.&#8221; What&#8217;s different about this book, though, is that it&#8217;s chock full of more than 200 photographs and illustrations, and more than 100 tips and DIY projects that approach the upcycling subject in a very non-confrontational and user-friendly way. What&#8217;s great is that this book&#8217;s coffee table appeal means the ideas will always be handy since you won&#8217;t have to put it away on a shelf.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">And, if you need a few tips on how to decorate with all of these new coffee table books (hint: layering is the secret), then consider the suggested arrangements below:</span></p>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-weight: 400;">Add color and style to a glass table by taking several books and covering the surface with about an inch in between each one, creating a grid-like &#8220;base&#8221; on which to place other items like bowls, small succulents, or a geode.</span></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-weight: 400;">Stack your coffee table books from largest in size to smallest in size, about four or five books in all, and then top them with something special like a treasured sculptural piece.</span></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-weight: 400;">Create a small vignette by using a serving tray, clear acrylic is very cool, that holds one of your favorite coffee table books, along with a few other objects that sit in the tray, too. Try a magnifying glass with a fancy handle, a small decorative box, and a golden urchin.</span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We hope you&#8217;re as excited about these books as we are. Share your thoughts with us on the </span><a href="https://www.facebook.com/ecosaloncom"><span style="font-weight: 400;">EcoSalon Facebook page</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">!</span></p>

<p>This is the perfect place to park wet rain boots or muddy shoes this summer. <p><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/2015_03_03_juleonecklaceholderdiy-0262.jpg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-157289" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/2015_03_03_juleonecklaceholderdiy-0262-376x512.jpg" alt="11 Decorative DIY Crafts Using Natural Materials" width="351" height="478" /></a></p>
<p>With just some craft wood, paint, glue, wall adhesive, and a selection of raw crystals you&#8217;ll have a beautiful necklace display, or three, to hang on your wall this summer. The best part is that it&#8217;s really as simple to assemble as it looks.</p>

<p><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/burlap-floral-strip-pillow-DIY-tutorial-at-thehappyhousie-1024x712.jpg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-157290" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/burlap-floral-strip-pillow-DIY-tutorial-at-thehappyhousie-1024x712-736x512.jpg" alt="11 Decorative DIY Crafts Using Natural Materials" width="500" height="348" /></a></p>
<p>This one requires sewing skills, or some Heat&#8217;n Bond (shhhh, we won&#8217;t tell if you don&#8217;t), along with burlap, loose stuffing or a pillow insert, and a contrasting strip of fabric. If you&#8217;re not into the tan tone of the burlap, then paint it white first and choose a black and white geo print to make this pillow more modern.</p>

<p>Turn your treasures into a beautiful reminder of your seaside jaunts with shell candles. These would look great as part of a beach inspired tablescape and the easy to follow tutorial will tell you exactly how to execute.</p>
<p>8. <a href="http://www.curbly.com/m/17869-how-to-make-your-own-diy-spa-inspired-pebble-bath-mat" target="_blank">Stone Door Mat</a></p>

<p>This is a project that has a really chic, rich looking outcome with just a few simple materials. Another plus is that it can be used as a front door mat or as a shower mat. If you plan on getting it wet, then choose a base that has holes in it for drainage or poke some in it yourself.</p>

<p>Ah, finally a solution for those awkwardly placed outlets causing your lamp cords to cut all kinds of crazy across the room. This tutorial shows you how to camouflage those unsightly strands with some hot glue and some jute twine.</p>

<p>One of the coolest projects I&#8217;ve seen lately is this modern and natural unfinished balsa wood lampshade revamp. It&#8217;s another quick and easy DIY that has major impact. I especially love this blogger&#8217;s finished shade against her navy blue walls.</p>
<p>11. <a href="http://www.craftynest.com/2010/03/wine-cork-bath-mat/" target="_blank">Wine Cork Bath Mat</a></p>
<p><a href="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/DSCF5519orig.jpg"><img class="alignnone wp-image-157291" src="http://ecosalon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/DSCF5519orig.jpg" alt="11 Decorative DIY Crafts Using Natural Materials" width="501" height="376" /></a></p>
<p>Calling all wine drinkers! This easy DIY is simple, but requires around 175 corks, according to the blogger who shared this tutorial, so if you&#8217;ve got the materials, then you can also have a really nifty cork bath mat.</p>
