10 Eco Links To Start Your Week

-

Another week already – and we’ve got plenty of great stories to send your way. But first, in brief…..

First up, a useful guide to greening up your home with eco-friendly appliances, from those nice people at Comparence. (And now I *need* a wall-mounted dishwasher).

How do you view flexitarianism? A admirable middle-ground, or is “being a little bit vegetarian like being a little bit pregnant”? Read Karen Springen’s article at Newsweek to find out where you stand.

We’re starting to suspect that coconut husks are going to be one of the decor materials for the 21st Century – take Made Putra Suteja’s work, or the Coconut Pod bowl. Now, as reported by Triplepundit, we have deliciously tactile coconut shell tiles (from Kirei). Whatever next? (Have you seen any other husk-using designs?).

Astrology dictating your decor? Excuse me, something seems to be wrong with my eyebrow. But “homestrology” is cropping up everywhere – even getting a mention by Apartment Therapy (which we found via This Young House). Check out the homestrologer’s guide to the home.

Nike have a shoe recycling program that’s setting up drop-off points all over the globe – and this has inspired Lena at Blissfully Domestic to initiate a shoe recycling scheme at her school. Two boxes of used athletic shoes and counting!

Here’s something I’ve never considered before: the geometry behind the art of display, as outlined at Chez Larsson. (Reminds me more than a little of the rule of thirds and the golden ratio).

More than a few people think that wind turbines are a visual nuisance – so they might be interested to hear of plans to set up tidal turbine farms around Scotland and Northern Ireland. Thanks go to Device Daily for this story.

Like transglass (which Sara reported on a while back), ReusefulObjects have brought out a range of vases made from recycled bottles – in this case, salvaged bottles of beer. See the details over at ReNest.

Here’s a clear display of another facet of the relationship between food and bio-ethanol: as soon as the price of cane-based bio-ethanol was expected to fall last week, Indian sugar prices eased. Food and biofuel – two sides of the same coin…

If you’re looking for an excuse to visit New York’s Museum of Modern Art (you need an excuse?) then get over there before October 20th and check out “Home Delivery: Fabricating the Modern Dwelling“. You can learn more over at greenUPGRADER.

Now – on with the week!
