Well, no, not really (a woman can dream, can’t she?). However, these six tips for greening your laundry are so easy, so simple, so free, I am certain that John would find it impossible to withhold his approval (see quiz below). Laundry may never be particularly alluring, but greening the chore is a lot easier than determining if our politicians are eco-friendly or not.
Line-dry or air-dry flat whenever you can – it’s recommended for delicates and sweaters anyway.
When you do use a dryer, separate towels and heavier cottons from lighter-weight clothes so the drying process is more efficient.
Don’t over-dry your clothes! You can always toss them back in for a few minutes if your threads aren’t toasty warm, but you can’t take back all that wasted energy for unnecessary fluffing. If you’re lucky enough to have your own machine, check to see if it has a moisture sensor. If it does, use it.
Clean the lint filter in the dryer after every load to improve air circulation. This is one of the best ways to green your laundry, and it’s also one of the easiest. “¨
Use the cool-down cycle to allow clothes to finish drying with residual heat in the dryer.
If you have your own machine, periodically inspect your dryer vent to ensure it is not blocked. This will save energy and may prevent a fire, so it’s a good precaution regardless of your eco priorities. Manufacturers recommend using rigid venting material, not plastic vents that may collapse and cause blockages. “¨

What do you think of our politicians’ stances on the environment? Are they doing enough? Are they sincere? Whom do you trust most to make wise decisions in the coming years as we face global eco challenges?
