When I moved to northern California I didn’t realize I would need bed netting as much as they need it in the bush. Perhaps it’s the moisture in the air, the lush gardens, or the standing water. Whatever it is, we have an abundance of dreaded mosquitoes, and I must have the kind of delicious blood those scoundrels crave because even my bites have bites.
I love hanging bed nets as protection, since they don’t expose us to chemicals and offer that Out of Africa ambience while letting us sleep in peace. When my girls were little, we even had tea parties under our nets, wearing safari hats and eating biscuits on the bed.
But it has been hard to find quality nets that look pretty in a room. Some brands sold in global outlets in the U.S. are marketed simply for aesthetics – but don’t really work.
Maranon Hammocks International in The Netherlands sells amazing nets in its Klamboe Collection. The nets literally come in a rainbow of colors, from hot pink and red to orange, lime, purple, banana, and traditional white. This site also sells travel nets for camping or lodging in mosquito-prone environments, as well as eco chairs and hammocks for lounging by the lake.
