Island Girl Salvage

-

As easy and cheap as brands like IKEA may be, I’m just not that kind of gal. I’m the one who heads straight for the antique shops and flea markets, searching for the exact look and feel I’ve dreamed up  – and then I begin the rigorous courting process. I’m happy to say that my most recent experience has resulted in a long, happy relationship with my refurbished 1920s lingerie chest, but it certainly took a long time to get there.

In case you’re like me, I’ve decided to help you with the process. Meet the modern-day Rosie-the-Riveters at Island Girl Salvage and you may just hope to give up your corporate job and join the wrecking crew. Island Girl was started out of a passion for historical preservation, an appreciation for quality craftsmanship (the type that today’s furniture-in-a-box lacks), and a desire to keep history out of our landfills.

So, how does it work? Island Girl’s team finds homes slated for demolition to collect the finest architectural pieces pre-dating the “Ëœ50s. Check out their latest haul online or at their store in Illinois. And if there is something very specific you are looking for, you’ll be thrilled by the Search and Rescue program. The ladies at Island Girl are happy to scout for you. All you have to do is fill out a form with as much detail as you can. Once they find your item, you can come and take a look but are not obligated to purchase. Even better, there’s no fee for this service. It’s too bad I missed Island Girl Salvage for my dresser hunt!
