Just how earthy are you? Do you grow hair under your arms? Do you wear gentle muslin Mary Janes? Do you frequent farmers’ markets with your own hemp shoulder satchels overflowing with sunflowers and kale? If you passed the test, then you might be in the market for the newest eco furniture to hit the San Francisco design center.
It’s called Dekayu, taking its name from Kayu, which means wood in Indonesian. The collection incorporates reclaimed teak and other wood tables and benches that are so organic, their varicose grains practically bulge out. In addition to the clean Ghazia tables and benches, the showroom offers an antique collection with more Asian-inspired pieces, all billed as having an environmental conscience which we all need in this world of rapidly diminishing resources.
I find the pieces a bit on the masculine side but they blend nicely in clean, modern spaces, achieving the company’s goal of focusing on the beauty of nature.
