The last time I was lucky enough to be in London, I searched high and low for gifts and souvenirs that I couldn’t find in the United States; in our globalized world, it’s not as easy as it used to be to find unique artisan goods.
For design, craft and textile lovers, I have three recommendations. First, visit the Victoria & Albert Museum gift shop, where centuries of decorative arts hold high honor; you’ll find many gifts inspired by William Morris designs, like these charming cherry earrings.
Then, find your way to the shops near Portobello Road: Graham & Greene, where I once found an unusual handwoven silk ribbon scarf that is the most-complimented piece in my wardrobe; and especially Hand, dedicated to handmade objects of all kinds. Their thick hammered silver bangles will add magic to spring’s trendy tribal-print dresses. And the best part of a global world? Each of these shops has a website, so you don’t have to leave home for these treasures.
