The ground beneath our feet: so often it’s carpeted in materials brimming with synthetic coatings and fabrics. Most floor coverings are also flat, unlike natural terrain which is uneven, eye-catching and dimensional. Think of a garden!
Dutch designer Jo Meesters has created a gorgeous method of resurrecting rags into rugs with his "secret garden" pieces. His process merges high technology cutting tools with traditional needlework, and "re-values" old woolen blankets by giving them a second incarnation as royally gorgeous rugs. The pieces are most notable for their use in creating a "relief" motif, adding dimension to normally flat rugs.
The same design sensibility or raised-relief floor coverings can be found in Meesters’s black wool rugs and "floor pouffes", which add a unique perspective element to floor design. Prices vary.
