What Prairie Underground is to my wardrobe, AK Vintage is to my jewelry collection. Sort of an obsession.
Based out of Portland, Oregon, AK Vintage designer Anna Korte creates limited-edition jewelry and – with the exception of the ear wires and some of the clasps – every single piece Anna uses in her designs is entirely, 100% vintage. And what a modern spin.
Balancing old and new is her nod to the works of poets E.E. Cummings, Federico Garcia Lorca, 19th-century nature essayist John Burroughs, Walt Whitman and a current collection permeated by the poetic notes of Kahlil Gibran. Each piece carries inspired names like “A Drop Of This Great Ocean,” “The Deep Red Earth,” and “From Distant Stars.”
Although the majority of her finds come from old costume jewelry warehouses, Anna hunts through antique stores and estate sales for special pieces that call to her. She also uses buttery soft vintage leather gloves in her designs, cutting them into tassles, feathers and links to her necklaces and earrings. Delightful.
The result?
Compliments every time you wear a piece and the gratification of knowing you might be the only kid on the block for miles wearing something so beautiful.
