Green Glass, Transformed

I maintain a ruthlessly edited home – in order to allow more room for glass, apparently. I love Italian glass lampshades, milky vintage finds, sea glass, and now my latest favorite, transglass. The pieces are unmistakably feminine and strong. They’re the eco-friendly daughters of wine bottles and they cleanly capture the designer’s positive attitude towards the earth.

Though recycling materials is a step in the right direction, I’m always happy to find goods that are fresh turnouts of an existing item – a sweater that becomes a bag (my latest project), chopsticks painted and turned into a hair accessory, or in this case, discarded beverage containers cut into vases. Now a part of MOMA New York’s Design Collection, you can purchase a unique set of your own – frosty or polished – for $360.
