The Green Teen Basement

-

One of the first things every teenager wants is a comfortable, hip lounge in the basement – away from those annoying parents. Whether you’re the "cool aunt", creative cousin or eco-friendly mom, you’ll earn brownie points for teens and the planet alike with this stylish lounge pillow. Leave it to smart Swedish designer Linus Kjellqvist to come up with the ultimate bean bag alternative – and in the shape of a giant Swedish Dala Horse, no less.

The wooden Dala Horse has a long history in Swedish culture, beginning as a toy made from scraps of wood from the clock industry. In the1800s, during a period of economic adversity, the traditional horse carvings were used as barter for household staples.

Inspired by this classic design, Linus has created the Dala lounge pillow out of high-quality worsted yarn, variegated pearl cotton, hand-embroidered details and a fill of coconut fiber. All of the materials are 100% recycled, so on top of being unique and stylish, it’s eco-friendly! The pillow will be available in the U.S. soon through [hus] home for about $2,500. It’s a grown-up price tag, but then, the pillow is so delightfully refined, you might want it all to yourself.
