The U.S. prison system is a mess. So, that’s why a recently passed California law made such an impact on so many lives.
“In November 2012, Californians voted in favor of the Three Strikes Reform Act (Proposition 36); no longer would their state be the only one to punish minor crimes with a life sentence,” Mother Jones reports.
“As a result, almost 3,000 inmates—some of whom had been sentenced to life for crimes like stealing a pair of socks—were immediately eligible for parole.”
The PBS POV film, “The Return,” shows how that Act affected two men. Watch the trailer for it below and catch the full film until June 22, 2016 while it streams on POV.
