Here are 7 Oscar nominated movies you can watch from the comfort of your own home.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year (well, to me anyway). With the Oscars just around the corner, what better way to gear up for a night of watching celebs get their glamour on than by watching the very flicks that scored them nominations? While some of the Oscar nominated movies won’t be available until after the event, here are 7 you can squeeze in before the big day:
1. “Birdman”
Former movie superhero Riggan Thomson takes on an ambitious Broadway production he hopes will breathe new life into his career – and prove he’s not just a washed-up movie star. (Available on Amazon and iTunes.)
2. “Boyhood”
The highs and lows of growing up are seen through the eyes of a boy named Mason, his parents and his sister. What’s most fascinating about this flick is that it was filmed with the same cast over the course of 12 years! It’s by far one of the most deserving Oscar nominated movies out there. (Available on Amazon and iTunes.)
3. “The Grand Budapest Hotel”
The Grand Budapest Hotel is a popular European ski resort that’s run by concierge Gustave H., who prides himself on providing first-class service to his hotel guests – including satisfying the sexual needs of the elderly women who stay there. When one of his lovers mysteriously dies, Gustave finds himself the primary suspect in her murder. (Available on Amazon and iTunes.)
4. “The Theory of Everything”
Cambridge University student and future physicist Stephen Hawking falls in love with fellow student Jane Wilde. Despite being diagnosed with a motor neuron disease at 21, he – with Jane by his side – defies the odds and break new ground in the fields of science and medicine. (Available on Amazon and iTunes.)
5. “The Judge”
Shady attorney Hank Palmer returns to his hometown after he learns his mother has passed away. His arrival renews tension between himself and his father, Judge Joseph Palmer, who doesn’t hold back on how he feels about Hank’s morally questionable career. As Hank prepares to leave, his father is arrested for a hit-and-run death and Hank represents him in court – despite his father’s objections. (Available on Amazon and iTunes.)
6. “Gone Girl”
Former New York-based writer Nick Dunne and his glamorous wife Amy paint a pretty picture about their marriage to the general public. However, when Amy goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary, Nick becomes the primary suspect in her disappearance, leading to a frenzy of questions about who Nick and Amy really are. (Available on Amazon and iTunes.)
7. “Begin Again”
Gretta and her songwriting partner Dave move to New York, where he lands a record deal with a major label – and ditches Gretta in the process. Dan, a disgraced record exec, discovers her performing in a club and they work on her first album together. (Available on Amazon and iTunes.)
