Summer Lipstick Shades that Work in Early Fall

If you follow the trends, you can wear your summer lipstick into the fall.

Summer isn’t quite over yet, but I’ve been itching to start adding fall hues to my beauty routine. So, imagine my joy when I realized there are many summer lipstick shades that can easily be worn in early fall. The following 5 hues are some of my favorites.

This summer lipstick looks great no matter the season.

1. Bright red

Is there really a season that a bold, bright, true red lipstick doesn’t work? This hue will look great on your lips when you’re poolside, or when you’re searching for pumpkins in a local pumpkin patch. This color is called NSFW and comes from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. It’s described as a true, balanced red. OCC is known for its signature, liquid lipstick that’s vegan and cruelty-free. Get this beautiful burst of color for $16

2. Brick red

Whenever I’m feeling moody, I wear this early ’90s inspired lipstick. Although this color isn’t as bright and vibrant as many other summer shades, its muted hue is a great transition color. Wear it with flirty outfits this summer and with warm, autumn colors—and some retro wide-leg Levis—come September. This shade comes from NYX, a company that is technically cruelty-free. Be advised, though. NYX sells in China. Priced at $6.

3. Magenta

This deep, rich color has been gracing summer lips all season. So, if you’ve yet to give it a try, now’s the time. While it’s similar to other pink hues, this lipstick has a rich look. Also: This formula, which also comes from NYX, is new. It has all the beauty of the line’s original matte formula with a slightly creamier texture. Priced at $7.

4. Medium-brown

If you aren’t a fan of dark or vibrant lip colors, give this subtle, sexy shade a shot. It has all the class of a nude color, with the retro sass of a mid ’90s “it girl.” Keep a fresh face with this lipstick in the summer and add a smokey eye or cat eye come fall. Priced at $3. This shade comes from e.l.f., another brand that’s cruelty-free.

5. Shimmering green

Okay, bold women. This shade may be out of many of your comfort zones, but it’s just one of the many dark, strange shades—think black, dark blue, bronze, etc.—that became popular this summer. We love this shade because it is green—a totally unique lip color—and it has a bit of gold shimmer. Priced at $16 from OCC.
