Does Tom's of Maine Make You Stink?

-

I entertained a short-lived green poseur phase back in the beginning of college when my hippie-esque roommate started using only natural products. I quickly switched to Tom’s of Maine everything. Not long after, I noticed that my underarms weren’t staying as girly fresh as they always had. What could I attribute this to? It turns out that Tom’s of Maine was making me stink.

Now that I have legitimately made the green transition, I find myself revisiting my past concern. Do any natural deodorants really work?

This weekend, I was in Pharmaca (a pretty chic drugstore of natural health and beauty products) with my friend and we checked out the natural deodorants section. She’s a true expert on the subject  – having tried every brand on the market – so I trust her opinion. Sadly enough, she gave the same poor review I had about Tom’s for all eco-options (Kiss My Face, Alba Organics, Nature’s Gate, Crystal, Earth Science, Jason’s Natural Cosmetics, Aubrey Organics, Weleda, Dessert Essence). Whew!

Either I’m going to have to figure out a way to stop producing smelly sweat or continue my long, hard search for a natural aluminum- and paraben-free deodorant that works.
