Recently, I began to realize that my thoughts really do turn into things. I am reminded to stay on my mental toes and keep focusing on what I want to happen in life – and to have discernment about it so that when what I want shows up I can be ready for it.
Negative thinking is stinkin’ thinkin’, as one of my friends puts it. And stinkin’ thinkin’ is an old habit that predates World War I in my family so to find myself having negative thoughts is not a big surprise. Still, it’s all about the practice to Focus on the Good Stuff, according to author Mike Robbins. For the next 30 days, I’m taking myself on a little Good Stuff Challenge. I’m giving myself an upgrade!
One major point to focus on the good stuff, according to Robbins, is to acknowledge others from your heart. Be sincere and do it often. This practice is one of my new favorites! It gives me a chance to give to others a gift that has no price tag, to shine their light back to them and be the witness to their ability to deeply receive all the good stuff about themselves.
Here are some ways to join in practicing with me during the 30 day Focus on the Good Stuff Challenge:
Write at least one heartfelt thank-you note each week.
Ask people how they like to be acknowledged.
Create a special day with your spouse or significant other.
Pick three new things each day that you appreciate about your spouse or significant other and tell him or her (roommate, family member, or start with your pet!)
Put people on the acknowledgment “hot seat”. Start off meetings with people sharing good stuff. What are you grateful for today? What are some good things that have happened since we last met?
