East and West Will Meet in a Hospital's Cancer Ward

-

I think modern medicine might be evolving: New York’s Beth Israel hospital is devoting a whole floor of its cancer ward to holistic treatments such as yoga, meditation and aromatherapy. Finally, a chance to address the spirit as well as the body in the realm of treating illness and disease!

Donna Karan’s Urban Zen Foundation is funding the project and well-known yoga teachers Rodney and Colleen Saidman Yee will oversee the classes. The hospital is not substituting conventional cancer treatments, like chemotherapy, but rather supplementing them with the holistic treatments. I imagine they’ll get excellent results. And even if the yoga doesn’t save some people from dying, it can very well help them accept and face death with peace and without fear. This in itself is invaluable.

I’m always happy to hear about people with fame and fortune who put their assets towards good causes and help push those good causes forward in ways that the rest of us little guys might take a lot longer to achieve.
